Someone’s special night.

Chapter 821 by Fantasy Fantasy

It had only been three hours since the start of our Saturday night shift at work and I had probably looked at the time on my phone at least 40… times. I let out a sigh as I returned behind the counter after serving some drinks to a table of two men and one woman.

“How does that look to you?” Diana asked me in whispers.

“Hm? Oh, I think it’s fine,” I said, subtly glancing at the trio and shrugging. “The vibe seems good, so nothing to worry about.”

Truth be told, we didn’t get as many trios or groups as I thought we would. Some, yes, but not that many. This was one of the even rarer two men and one woman groups, so I can’t blame Diana for being alert. But no, I didn’t feel anything weird there. Just a lot of arousal from all three of them, and I for one wished them a fun threesome.

“Then why are you so restless tonight, Oliver?” Dylan asked me, putting back a glass he’d just finished washing. “You’ve looked at your phone like 40 times already.”

I let out a low groan. “It’s just… not a great time to be at work today,” I told him.

For one, Fern was at the house and it made me feel awkward to be away. Inviting someone to your home and then leaving them alone feels rude to me, even if it’s for work. That said, I think leaving Fern alone with the other girls is probably the best move right now. Alice and Fern seemed a lot more comfortable with each other this morning, and that made me incredibly happy. So yeah, while I wanted to be home, this was for the best.

No, the real issue is that today is my good friend Thomas’ birthday, and it’s not the big guy that concerns me. It’s the three girls who didn’t look pleased that I had to work today. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get home quickly or if I’d rather not show up and wait for things to calm down. Diana seemed to be enjoying my turmoil, and I didn’t know she had that sort of sadistic side to her.

“Today is a sort of… anniversary for him, I hear,” Diana said, smirking. “So he’ll probably get an earful when he gets home.”

Dylan raised an eyebrow. “Not an anniversary between you two, then?”

I sighed. “Right.”

“You know, I’m starting to feel a lot less jealous of… whatever it is you have going on there,” Dylan said with a chuckle. “Anyway, can you cover me for a bit? I’m going to the restroom.”

“Sure,” I said with a nod.

I looked at my phone again to check the time, only now it was unrelated to me wanting to get the hell away from work as soon as possible.

“It’s already 8:00 pm,” I told Diana. “They should be arriving soon.”

“Everything’s ready, right?” Diana asked me. “You checked in with the kitchen?”

“Yeah, we’re ready.”

As if on cue, the door opened and another couple came into the bar. One was a gorgeous young woman of strawberry blonde hair that bordered on pink. She wore a revealing yet tasteful blue dress with a slit along the legs and a neckline that practically reached below her large breasts, had small diamond shaped earrings and a long necklace of pearls. Oh, and the guy with her was Thomas.

This was my and Diana’s gift to them. We’d be covering the bill for their dinner and drinks, though the room was on them. Now, my plan was to act perfectly professional, like they were just another pair of customers I’d attend to. My intent was to give them their space to celebrate their night without the awkwardness of being watched by someone you knew.

But seeing Thomas in a suit was way too fucking much for me and it would’ve been for anyone else. I had to make fun of him.

“Well, what do you know? You CAN dress decently if you try,” I told him as he and Maria walked over to the counter.

“Honestly, I feel like it’s wearing me more than the other way around,” Thomas said, grinning and trying to fix whatever was making his tie feel tight.

“And you?” Diana said, looking at her best friend up and down. Hell, Maria even did a little spin for her. She caught the eye of more than a couple of customers. “You went all out tonight, huh?”

“As one should,” Maria said, smiling confidently.

Diana chuckled. “You look amazing.”

“I want to agree, but I don’t feel right saying it,” I said, wincing.

“Yeah, keep your eyes on me, buddy,” Thomas told me, smirking as he as Maria sat down at the counter.

“Oh, like you didn’t ogle at the girls in swimsuits last weekend,” Maria told him. “It’s fine, Oliver. Feel free to look.”

“Okay, now I feel like I HAVE to…” The four of us laughed, keeping it quiet enough for everyone else. “We have a booth ready for you two. I can bring you your dinner here, too.”

“We’d like to have a drink here first, though,” Thomas said. “I know you two can’t drink right now, but at least join us for a minute, okay?”

“Rush hour permitting,” Diana said, looking around. We weren’t yet at full capacity, but the evening was just starting. “Then again, Oliver’s the one who runs around the most.”

The backdoor opened and Dylan came back from the restroom. At the same time, one of the customers at a table raised his hand to call for me, so I excused myself for a moment. Diana and Dylan would be able to make anything better than I could, so they were in good hands.

After I was done with the request for a whiskey refill, I noticed that Thomas and Maria had already placed their orders and our two bartenders were taking care of it. As I approached, a phone began to ring.

“Oh, come on…!” Thomas groaned. “It’s my cousin… I swear I’m putting this on silence for the rest of the night.” He sighed. “I’ll be back in a second.”

Thomas stepped out of the bar, and the moment he did I felt a chill run down my back. I had a bad feeling. There was no way he would…

“Here you go, miss,” Dylan said, placing a drink in front of Maria with that charming smile of his. “Your Lavender Collins. A beautiful drink for a beautiful woman.”

I swear I was about to kick him on the shin as my first reaction, and I even felt a sharp jolt of panic and fury from Diana. But you know who beat us to the punch?

Maria chuckled and kept a very easy and beautiful smile. “Flirting with customers on the job? A customer who’s clearly here on a date? With your boss watching? Ah, not to mention she’s my best friend, you know? And my date is Oliver’s best friend. Is the job so bad you’re looking to get fired?”

Dylan tried to awkwardly laugh it off, but his face went pale. We warned him his flirting was going to bite him in the ass one day, but I don’t think any of us expected it to be this way. Then again, everything I learned about customer service came from Maria, and the woman has standards.

As Dylan excused himself, I gave my old boss a smirk and a sneaky thumbs up. Even Diana felt that was enough and didn’t say anything else to the guy, holding back her laughter. Maria seemed satisfied with herself.
