Who finds the Bimbo Ray?

Vi

Chapter 4 by Adova

Vi was frustrated as she walked the streets of Zaun. Her and Caitlyn recently had a big disagreement on how best to handle jinx. According to that posh copper they should be shaking down every common ruffian on the streets to flush Jinx out of hiding. Vi knew exactly what this meant. More restrictions, more so called 'order' from the rich, trampling on the poor. Caitlyn had no idea how the undercity worked. There is a sense of loyalty, despite all the crime. Nobody would willingly give up Jinx, even if they knew where she was, which was highly unlikely. Vi had at that point in the argument stormed out of Caitlyn's bedroom in frustration. Better to leave the girl hanging than end up smashing something in her perfectly manicured room.

The boxer turned cop slid down a rooftop and jumped into a quiet backstreet. She had been walking aimlessly around but as her thoughts slowly calmed down she noticed that she recognized this area. A rusty door stood ajar, leading into an abandoned warehouse that had clearly not been used for years. This was where Vander used to train her with that arcade like machine. She wondered if it was still functional. Could be a good way to let off some steam. Calmly opening the door she stepped inside in search of any remnant of her past. For so long she had tried to push the painful memories of childhood trauma away, but in this moment of weakness caused by fighting with Caitlyn, she was feeling sentimental.

Unfortunately for her, had been mostly cleaned out. Clearly scavengers had been around, picking out any useful parts or metals from the things inside. In the center of the room Vi saw the old boxing machine. Now only its metal shell remained, fading paint in neon colours that flaked. Powder had insisted on sprucing up the thing...said it was too boring looking without a splash of pink and blue. The thoughts of her sister only spurred her melancholy further, that was however when she remembered that Powder had a small cubby where she tinkered on things that had a slightly hidden entrance. Powder always thought she was hidden in there, but Vi had figured out ages ago how to enter it. Still she let her younger sister believe she was sneaky. Vi approached a metal grate that lead into a ventilation shaft. She pulled it off and crouched down, sneaking through the vent to end up in a small crawlspace where one could barely stand.

- This was a lot easier when I was younger...I bet making it in here was a piece of cake for powder considering her size...

Vi mumbled to herself, looking around at Powders favourite tinkering spot. It looked completely untouched. Obviously there was dust and cobwebs everywhere, but it was filled with small toys and other gadgets. Vi swallowed, feeling intense emotions of her past catching up to her. She was not going to cry. Crying was weakness and she needed to stay strong.

-Focus. Vi. Whilst you're here you might as well look for some sort of clue...
She began moving objects, opening small containers. There was nothing of interest around. Nothing she hadn't seen before or that could lead her to jinx. Right as she was about to give up and crawl out of the vent once more she saw a bobblehead monkey standing up on a ledge. That looked familiar. She playfully gave the monkey a flick on the head, causing it to start jiggling as gears turned. The eyes lit up and it started to smash its two cymbals together, creating a surprisingly loud noise.

- Woah...still works huh. Her inventions really weren't that ba-...
A grinding noise could be heard behind her, a section of the wall inside of the crawl space slid open, revealing another trunk.

- Wait...what is this?

Vi leaned down, opening the trunk to reveal a strange looking toy gun. She picked it up and held it in her hands. It was surprisingly light to hold. The gun had a pink colour scheme with coils running around it. The thing looked really silly, no way was it functional. One the side of the gun Powder had clearly carved some letters in. Vi had to squint her eyes to read them properly.
- B..r...a...i...n....another b....l?....a....two z's...t...e?....r!
- Brainblazzter?
Vi looked confused, she looked into the trunk to see if there was anything else. She spotted a small piece of paper, which she picked up. Perhaps it was some sort of instructions.
'Use when Vi is being mean and she needs to relax'
This was too much. Vi felt a tear run down her cheek. Her naive little sister was too precious. How had it all gone wrong? She stood there stuck in a sea of feelings, debating whether to leave this silly toy or to bring it with her. After almost a minute of conflicting emotions she decides to clip it to her belt. In the worst case scenario she could at least show the thing to Caitlyn and try and prove that Jinx was once a scared human girl, despite all of the atrocities she had done lately.
