Chapter 37 by Icantwrite
The next morning....
Updating Roos and only half done
As I crawl into my bed, perfectly warmed, Julia sleeps soundly beside it. I pile some spare blankets on top of her. I need to give her a way out of having to sleep on the floor all the time. Well, I could give her a rule or an agreement that would allow her as long as she did a task... Something for the list for tomorrow. I might as well make a small list for tomorrow so I don't forget.
- Call the contractor who wanted to have a look around.
- Print the photo so you can show it to Roos without a screen.
- Plan something, so Jullia doesn't need to sleep on the floor unless you tell her not to.
I wake up to the smell of fresh bread, eggs and bacon. I look at my phone to find that Madelon had completed her quest and that I could hand her and Pig a quest. Maybe more important was that she had reached level 10.
Madelon assigned herself the sister class select secondary class. Please select a secondary class.
Wait, since when is Sister a servant class? Wait, my harem type automatically makes any class. Does that mean she is already in my harem? She just doesn't show up for the rest? I can't check it now anyway, I need to pick a secondary class to be able to do more in the app. I decide to close it and look at it later. I look at my mail to get the contact info of the contractor instead of focusing on QuestMaster.
"Hello, this is Pieter Visser. I did an inquiry over the weekend. I was kind of busy the last few days. I thought I would call you to see when you were available to take a look at the place."
From the other side of the phone, I hear: "Do you have time around 3 in the afternoon or tonight? Otherwise, I can still plan it later in the week or next."
"I can see you at the address around 3."
"See you then."
"Later," and he hung up. A man to my own heart. To the point.
I head into the kitchen and sit down to grab breakfast. "Jullia, could you print me that picture from yesterday so I can show Roos?" She nods, eating on the floor. "Good, if you want, you can sit at the table, same goes for you, Anne," I say to the other girl sitting on the floor. "Jullia can I carpool with you to the hospital? We can walk back from there anyway. She doesn't have any physical issues other than the bad responses to bright lights, which should be mitigated with sunglasses. If the doctor dislikes the idea, we can always take a bus." Another curt nod as she goes to sit down with Anne. "Are the two of you unable to talk today?"
"Master, somehow the air feels weird after yesterday. Hanging out with Madelon, and you felt like we were intruding on something. As if you had invited us to be jealous but not be able to. As if you wanted to show us what we could have just out of reach." Anne responded.
Shocked, I respond: "Ohh, sorry, I didn't mean to make it feel like that. I thought we all of us had fun together. Sorry if I left you guys out. I had only one dance, but that was to make sure Madelon felt safe going out there again." Both of them relaxed at my reaction and explanation.
"We can never stay mad long at you, master," they said before leaning in for a kiss. Which I gave both of them. With the tension lifted, we talked more about yesterday before we all left.
"What do you guys think about adding others to our relationship? For now, I concretely mean Robin to be clear."
"I am fine with it would free us up around D&D afternoon more," Robin replies.
Jullia looks at her and says: "Roos and Anne know him best. I don't care about or know who he is. If Roos and Anne are fine with him, I will go along with them."
Arriving in Roos's room, she is all cleaned up and ready to go, but we have to wait for any last instructions from the doctor. He arrives soon after I enter the room. "So, Roos, let's review the things you should be wary of to prevent you from passing out. Stay away from flashing lights, bright screens and the sun without sunglasses. We have found no other triggers, but it is worth keeping a friend or family member near for the first few times."
I nod along and see Roos frustrated. "To be clear, something like an e-book or a phone with minimum brightness, as well as a computer with such settings, shouldn't be a problem, or are they?"
"That is the current hypothesis, but we would prefer you test that at home. In all the cases we have observed where Roos has lost consciousness, she hasn't had any fits or anything that could prevent her from waking up. That is the weirdest thing of all with this case. We would like to publish if you are okay with it." I look at Roos.
"Sure, give me the papers. If it might help people or other people in the future, go ahead. Please do send me a copy of it, though."
"I am an engineer at Philips Medical, so professional interest in my personal details. Also would allow me to clue in my colleagues beforehand."
"That is why the MRI-techs were suddenly feeling like idiots and complaining about a woman knowing their machine better than them."
"People who know stuff are the worst patients, right?"
"Yep." This conversation seemed to be the first time he had interacted with her.
The nurse wandered in. "You didn't know that? She had been reviewing magnetic field interactions for the past few days in what I assume are old university books."
"Who got you those? Anna.... No, I assume or your mom." I say with suspicion in my voice. "You should be resting, silly, not prepping to get back to work." I scold. "But thanks for everything," I say to the doctor and the nurse.
"Wait, even he didn't know. He put in the effort to come up with a decent dinner the last few days. You knew your fiancée would scold you." He responded. Roos looked around awkwardly.
I didn't react, but as we left Jullia walked up to me with a piece of paper. "Here you go, Pieter. I have the print you needed. I hope you two will have a good day together. Have fun." She said with a wink.
I take the picture and smile. "Given that the doctor said to stay safe with electronic lit screens, I might have been able to show it to you dimly, but I couldn't risk not being able to show you." I tease about the picture for now. "For now, I will look for an e-reader with writing functionality for safety, as the unlit screen is, for now, the safest. But we can see if we can set up your phone and laptop so it works." She is looking antsy at the piece of paper. "It is a picture from my youth, nothing that we can't show in public. Who do you take me for?"
This doesn't seem to calm her; she has only got more curious. I hand it to her as soon as we step outside the hospital, as she puts on a pair of sunglasses. "Where is this? I am not in here, but who is the girl?"
"Not a girl, according to the guy who wanted to set me up with him. But you know him." I reply, trying to see if she can piece together who it is.
"I know him? Is he openly gay?" I shake my head. "Do we see him often?"
"With regular frequency."
"Bart or Robin?" I nod. "Cool, a fifty-fifty now. Hmmm.... Bart is too stereotypically male to do this. Robin plays female characters all the damm time. Robin, it has to be Robin." I nod. "Okay, some guy tried to set you up with Robin. Your reaction was to ask for a pic?"
"Yep, the description of why he thought I could match and that he had a crush on a guy who treated him like a girl during a vacation in 2008. That rang a bell in my head. I asked for the pic to get a confirmation."
"So what do you want to do with him now? Do you want to meet with him and see how he reacts?"
"I wanted to at least check with all of the girlfriends I have now."
"To be honest, fair and good to do. Do the other two know of this already?"
"The others already know. They were there when I found out at the gay bar with Madelon. I asked for their opinion on the matter in the morning. On a separate note, the owner also proposed to me. That I flat out declined as a matter of fact. I can't see myself with that dude, but Robin... I might. Especially with how he has been okay with me calling him a girl and having looked more feminine in the past."
"I kind of agree with you on the fact that Robin could be open to being more feminine and appealing to you that way. I am definitely open to inviting him in if he would like. I am open to also explaining our relationship to him."
"Thank you, that would be great. I also have an appointment with a contractor in the afternoon, around 3. We could meet with him for dinner. If we inform the rest, they can either not be there or join us. Let me check with him before I make anything official."
'Yo, Robin, do you want to come over tonight for dinner? I will make something, and we can talk about the pick as well as Laurens trying to set us up.'
Almost instantly, a response came. 'Sure, just the two of us?'
'No, Anne and maybe some more people will be there as well, but don't worry, the news might be more positive than you expect.'
'So you are open to it?'
'Yep, but me and my fianceé will want a conversation. The same goes for the others who might show up.'
'Wait fianceé? You guys are in an open relationship, and I might be let in?'
'Yes, that is the case.'
'Cool.... I get that you would want a bit of communication on how this will work. See you at dinner 19:00?'
'Yep, see you tonight.' As a result, I sent the following to Anne and Jullia: 'I have made an appointment with Robin. Roos will go into what our relationship is. I won't **** you to participate in the conversation over dinner and what follows. However, you will have to be aware that if Robin joins you will have to meet him. I assume that if you don't respond, you will not join us for dinner. If you don't, I would like you to sleep in your own apartment.' To have Roos in the loop as well, I say out loud. "I don't know if jullia and Anne will join us, but Robin will be around at 19:00. Your choice how you want to greet him."
"In clothes at the table as I would normally, once we start talking, that can change, but not immediately."
"Understandable. Do you have anything you want to discuss?"
Author's note: This Pieter has yet to accidentally select a class. As a rule, I wouldn't say backing out of the app and switching does select for you, but it will make it more likely that something might have happened. Madelon, I want to be just his sister. But logic dictates I have written myself into somewhat of a corner there. However, I see my version of Pieter never acting on it, even if Madelon sees it as an option. If you have cool ideas for secondary classes for her, let me know or don't. I have seen plenty of times that I'm not to expect responses before my brain wants to write it or has found an answer.
Also, let me know if there should be consequences for her looking at a min-brightness phone/monitor screen. I have already decided that an e-book won't be a trigger.
Does she?
