Invasion

“This is it,” Mark said as they pulled up to what honestly appeared to be an old abandoned office building.

“Man, this place is a dump,” Katie replied, scrunching her nose.

“Yeah, I agree. Are you sure Jane told us the truth?”

“Yeah, pretty sure. Besides, it’s not like she’s going anywhere.”

Mark shrugged at this as he parked his car. It was an old Police interceptor utility that his dad got cheap from work. It should be able to handle the expected 5 new occupants once they are frozen.

“So—are we just freezing and taking everyone in the building?” Katie asked as she got out of the car.

“I don’t see how we have any choice. Besides, life as a frozen doll is better than a life of crime in my opinion.”

“Nice,” Katie replied. “Are you going to freeze time?”

“Eh,” Mark shrugged. “Where’s the fun in that.”

Katie exhaled a deep breath as they entered the building, making a beeline for the elevator. It opened immediately and they soon piled in.

There was no hold music as the elevator lurched upwards. It was a short ride.

The doors to the elevator soon opened up, revealing what appeared to look more like a large apartment rather than an office space. Standing right in front of the doors however, was a black teenage girl with curly hair pulled into a messy ponytail. Like Jane, she too had a diamond shaped face.

“What the fuck,” the girl yelled, jumping back a foot or two.

“Janice stop!” Mark shouted aloud.

“What? Who are you? How do you know Janice,” the black girl cried.

“Oh shit! Uh… Claire stop!” Mark tried again.

This it worked, and Claire immediately became stuck in the pose she was in, frozen in time.

“Guess her info was good after all,” Katie replied as she stepped out of the elevator, followed by Mark. She then began to circle the frozen black girl, poking and prodding her. “She’ll add some nice diversity to your collection.”

“I wasn’t really thinking of that,” Mark grumbled.

“I guess we’ll have to go find the others now,” Katie said, immediately moving on.

“Right then, let’s do this.”
