Guideverse

The opening of the gates came slowly, some as unnoticed, other spread about in media as anomalies. No one knew back then that these would become a terrible norm.

The first groups to enter these tears, some fearless and some tasked by their country to investigate, would become the bloodied messengers for the worlds impending doom. Those that returned alive, that is.

However, among the ones that did return, their suffering was not in vain as they awakened as the worlds first Espers. Barers of unique supernatural abilities, that both gave them physics defying powers and enhanced resilience, strength and recovery abilities.

Some of these Espers became a beacon to human kind, organising and prepareing humanity to resist the growing threat to their world. While others succumbed to the darkness of human kind. Experimented on or bread in the hopes of baring offspring that would carry the same powers.

Every country and it's faction had it's own way of dealing with the disaster, some adapting rapidly to the new threat, some accepting international aid and offering concessions for help, retaining some sense of normality. An Yet others that shut themselves out, or succumbed to the gates, completely overrun with only pockets of resistance as what ever remained of the survivors learned to to sustain a brutal fight for survival.

With time, the Gate, became a resource, a source of new and exotic materials, and most prised of all: the cores. Strange opeobjects that seemed to keep the rifts open.

With it an Epser could enhance their power or a normal human could have their powers awakened. The powers of the world clamoured for these precious objects.

However, the Espers turned out to be a double edged sword with time. Their powers seemed to corrupt their sanity over time. The more they used it the more it fuelled their aggression, paranoia, and greed.

Some would succumb to the corruption entirely turning feral and becoming a yet another scourge that roamed the world in need for extermination.

Mysteriously, Humans all over the world began to awaken with the ability to syphon away an Espers corruption and soothing their burdened mentalities through touch. The capabilities and effectiveness seemed to vary between individuals. In addition, the level of intimacy would increase the therapeutic nature of the syphoning. Resulting in sex as a medical procedure becoming more common.

Furthermore, there seemed to be individual affinities between individual which came to be called as "compatibility".

These individuals would be known as Guides, and become an essential commodity to keep every power's Espers from falling into madness.

Still much is to be known about these Espers and Guides. and their nature may yet evolve or need to be discovered.

However as the decades pass, and the world changes in response to the Gates appearing. Some things are becoming clear. For unknown reasons, not only guides begin to awaken naturally but even Espers.

Many awaken shortly after turning 18 yet there are a significant number who never awaken or awaken. Though late bloomers. Both men and women awaken as guides and Espers, although it is rumoured there may be regional differences in which gender is more prone to awaken as either an Esper or a Guide.

However one thing is for sure, Between awakening as either an Esper or A guide or not awakening at all, it will lead to the course of your life changing, the rights you have and the choices you can make, as well as what experiences you will have. Whether that it the start of glory or an even deeper hell depends unfortunately in what time and place you awaken.
