Chapter 34 by JackSimth JackSimth

How does that go?

One week at a time....

Ugh, pregnancy. Week by week this body goes haywire while I go through the necessary steps on my companions' comatose bodies: Mostly just rolling them over periodically to prevent bedsores (they don't need to eat or drink, which also means no poo or pee to deal with). My first symptom is some swelling in my already ridiculous chest. I am glad for Delay Pain… and that it's Permanent when I do it: Delayed forever. Morning sickness is a lie: It can come at any time. Time is a little wonky right now, so I can't properly line things up, but… ugh. At least there's nothing in my stomach to lose. I eventually manage to give myself the “Strong Stomach” feat to get rid of the worst of it. I soon find that things smell more strongly… and I get a little moody, yelling at my summons for little to no reason. At least they don't talk back… I don't try a spell for that one. Self editing… just NO. Weirdly, my nose gets a little stuffed up, but hey, I don't actually need to breathe. I get a few bouts of dizziness… but hey: I can just sit down and nobody cares. And yes, I develop a baby bump, as do my sleeping party mates.

And then I start feeling frisky. I find Polymorphed summons make suitable toys. It bugs me that the only thing that properly scratches that itch is a large, meaty rod buried between my legs… but it does feel good, and magic let's tweak my servants to whatever form I like, so they're mostly female.

I feel some weird tensing up in my stomach… comes and goes, but doesn't hurt. My hands and feet swell slightly… an annoyance, but I'm directing, not working, so it really doesn't matter. It's weird the first time I feel the little one moving around. For some strange reason it makes me feel happy? I don't get it. My belly button popping out is… weird, but okay? As time marches on, my chest begins… leaking. And restless legs… eh, at least I don't get tired. The fluids leaking out between my legs occasionally are disgusting, but Fastidiousness handles most of the mess. Go magic!

Eventually I find myself remodeling the Demiplane. Fortunately it's very easy: I duplicate the Create Demiplane spell for the ‘Structure' option, which takes me all of half a second of my time. Which… might be a problem, as I end up remodeling the place hundreds of times. At least it's free when I change my mind about the shade of pink for the baby girl's nurseries, or want the baby boys’ nursery a little warmer, or decide I want unicorns carrying numbers rather than pixies with letters on the mobiles, or… ugh. Yeah, it gets bad. Ooh, given the world, Gryphons might be better.

But of course it needs to be perfect! I have a little baby counting on me! Four babies, as my friends will give birth too! More if any of us have twins! I've never been responsible for anyone else before! Ah, I'm not ready! …At least my irrational anxieties don't keep me awake.

Despite being pregnant for the shortest period of time, Alice gives birth first: I slap her awake when her water breaks (anything that would get someone out of a ‘deep sleep’ gets them out of the mindscape). She gives birth in an hour to a healthy and tiny little baby fox… which promptly turns into a sized fox-headed baby the size of a normal baby, and starts crying.

As I sit there blinking, Alice chuckles, “I am SO glad I went with Superior Shapeshifter for a fox form over the slight caster level boost of Voidkin. You would have given me the feat, I'm sure, but this way it's genetic.”

I smile and chuckle, shaking my head as I hand the little boy to his mother, giving them both a bit before tying off and cutting the umbilical cord, giving Alice time to bond with her newborn son. I wash him up with Prestidigitation (Alice stays clean, everything just sliding off).

…which means I have some help when Charles and Brian go into labor simultaneously. Their births are messy and difficult, but normal: A tiefling girl and a half-elf boy. Again, I handle clean-up magically, and as Alice and I hand the babies over to their mothers, I speak up, “Congratulations on the healthy births, Charles and Brian.”

“Charlene,” Charles corrects me, “Alice… kind of talked me into accepting reality while we were in the group hallucination.”

“Brianna here,” Brian chuckles, “Same, although I suspect the hormone storm may have had an impact there. But she did make a good point.”

I raise an eyebrow, “Which was?”

My water chooses that moment to break. Alice chuckles, “Let's discuss that after we have the little one sorted out….”

The birth is long, messy, weird, and embarrassing… and I have a complication: My hymen regenerated, and my damage reduction means the baby can't get through… which we resolve by just cutting me open (disease isn't a problem, Burrowing Spell on Touchsight from Spheres of Power allows me to see the issue, and I regenerate so the wounds simply go away after). My baby girl comes out human… and ooh this chest is FAR too sensitive.

I hear a woman moaning as my child feeds, then realize it's me. Ugh. Feels good, though.

As my little one goes to sleep, I ask Alice, “So what was the good point?”

“More of a really good question, really,” Brianna interrupts.

Alice chuckles, “Why haven't any of us even tried using magic to change back?”

That draws me up short, and I consider the matter….

Why indeed?
