Elizabeth Confronts the Old Woman

“Our friend got taken over by someone with her powers!” Susan blurted out before Liz could say anything, “We were wondering if you knew anything that could help us?”

The old woman thought for a moment before chuckling, “There are two body hoppers now? I wasn’t expecting that to happen,” she sighed, “I suppose that means poor Ian ended up passing away. I’m afraid I can’t do anything to help you.”

Liz stepped forward, “You have to do something! You’re the one who gave us that scroll! Don’t you know anything that could be useful?”

“My husband kept his powers to himself,” the old woman replied, “he only wanted to share his power with Hazel since she was getting older and was attracting a lot of unwanted attention. It was supposed to be for her birthday but…” she gestured off in the distance, “that never happened.”

“So you don’t know anything?” Liz asked.

The old woman shook her head, giving them a slight smile that made Liz’s blood boil. Susan noticed Liz growling and stepped forward, holding her back in case she did something she might regret. The woman laughed, “Go ahead and strike me, I don’t have much to live for,” she calmed down and fixed Lix with a balanced stare, “What are you going to do now? Let your friend be used by someone else?”

Liz broke free of Susan’s grip and grabbed the old woman by her hand and grabbed the spider ring from her finger. “I’ll be taking this.” Liz said.

“Go ahead,” the old woman replied, “I doubt there’ll be anyone who wants to hop an old woman like me, I won’t be as much fun to them.”

Fun? Liz thought, wanting nothing more than to wipe that smug grin off the old woman's face, you call being used and molested by someone else fun? There's got to be more you're not telling us!

“Liz,” Susan began, pulling her back, “lets go, we don’t want to be late.”

Liz didn't even so much as glanced in Susan's direction, instead keeping her gaze focused on the old woman, “You have nothing to say about any of this?”

“I said my dear Tom loved getting into trouble with that,” the old woman replied with enough false sweetness to make Liz gag, “seems he's not the only troublemaker around here.”

“Liz!” Susan begged, tugging on her arm harder.

The old woman wasn't going to tell them anything else. But Liz had an idea she knew more than she was letting on. Still, no point in arguing with a brick wall.

Liz glared at the old woman as Susan pulled her away. The old woman didn’t back down, staring after Liz until there was enough distance to where they couldn’t see each other anymore. Liz looked down at the ring, it matched her necklace almost exactly save for the fact that the spider carving was slightly smaller.

“What’s that?” Susan asked, looking at the ring Liz took.

“Supposedly, it will give some protection against Trevor,” Liz replied, slipping it into her pocket, “I think it’s the least she could have given us, since she’s the reason we’re even in this mess.”

“She didn’t really give it to us though,” Susan noted.

Liz didn’t care. She already had to deal with an unpleasant person, and now she was going to have to deal with another unpleasant person. For Naomi’s sake, she either better watch her tongue, or actually be useful! Liz thought, her nails biting into her palms, because I am not in the mood to play around right now!
