In the not too distant future roleplaying has become more popular and the technology to experience fantastical scenarios has become increasingly sophisticated. Roleplayers are utilizing device known as the Storyteller. Participants plug into the device and can experience a kind of shared dream that feels 100% real, but is 100% safe.
Injuries, ****, mental manipulation, hypnosis, etc… are not permanent inside the dream state. And the system is designed with an X-Card contingency that allows for immediate veto of crossing a layer’s personal sexual boundaries. So trying to do BDSM with someone who is non-consenting will result in the scenario being terminated.
Much like tabletop roleplaying games users can designate a person as the “Dungeon Master” or “Game Master”. This allows the user to manipulate the world as well as jump into NPCs to control them directly.
