Hotcakes & Hot heads

Clemens stretched. Yawning. The fresh morning air. Ashley had been talking about the ozone layer.

“The ozone layer is finally healing — we banned those CFC refrigerator chemicals — and now giving Mother Earth a chance to heal…” Ashley said.

Clemens half heard the yapping. Her sleepy brown eyes, searching for something. She got out of the car and walked around the bend. Ashley following.

A McDonalds. She could kill for some hotcakes with maple syrup. They sat down with McMuffins and hotcakes. Ashley had gotten exactly want Clemens got.

Clemens munched down. There was something bothering her, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

Then she looked at Ashley. She was still talking.

“Full recovery of the ozone layer should be by the 2050s — still a long time — but it’s a start…”

“Can you stop talking…” Clemens said.

“What?” Ashley said.

“You keep talking and talking, and it’s like school…” Clemens said.

“It’s important stuff… Clemens… Global Warming is real…” Ashley said, offended.

“My Civy is a good civy… I don’t see any warming — and I don’t even know what an ozone is…” Clemens said.

They got into the car. Silence. Awkward silence. Clemens started the car and they drove off.
