Email from Pete

Whilst checking the WIFI, you noticed there was an email from Pete, your old boss. It’s a reply to the email you sent the day after you left, the day you discovered you had part of the Snetterton Collection. You’d forgotten you’d sent him that.

A chill runs down you as you read it.

Hi John,

Thanks for the email. Hope you are settling in at St Perpetua’s. I’m really happy that you took the job. I know you’ll do a great job. In the department, we’re busy getting ready for the start of the new term. I’m sure you remember. It’s only now hitting how many of the faculty we lost last month. We’re all going to be extra busy.

Thanks for informing us about the Snetterton Collection. Are you sure you’ve got some of it? I’ve checked the paperwork, and it claims they took it all. But I guess, you would know better than anyone. Can you tell me what you’ve got? It’ll save me having to go through the independent lists. You know how tedious that can be. Once I’ve received that I can organise a pickup.

How do you reply to that? He wants a list of the box’s contents. You haven’t checked the contents. And what do you do about the Bands of Cernunnos? As far as you can tell they’ve merged with you. You don’t know how to remove them. Do you want to remove them?

And if the Bands are real, then are any of the other items? You feel the need find out. Which requires more investigation. Which means you can’t send the box back. But Pete will be expecting a response. What do you say? Caught between the two ideas, you pace and fret and get nowhere.

In the end, your solution is simple. Pete sent an email. You don’t have to respond straight away. Think about it. Come up with a solution you can live with. You don’t know what that solution is just yet.
