Lauren in Detention

Lauren's day had been such a whirlwind of humiliation she'd completely forgot she had detention. As someone who almost always got their way in the past, Lauren had never gotten detention before. So, feeling her pride broken into fragments, she shuffled to the detention area.

When she arrived she saw a few other students. There was a deadbeat, stoner looking boy with shaggy hair and a pock marked face, a punk rock girl with a foot tall spiked Mohawk, and two boys who were well known troublemakers in school. Standing in front of them was a severe administrator. They all turned as Lauren reluctantly shuffled up. She caught the other students all grin her way.

"Ah, Miss Adkins." The head of detention said, checking her name off the list. "First time in detention?"

"Y... yes." Lauren said, feeling on the spot with all eyes on her. She was used to everyone looking at her, but now they all had these smug, amused smiles while they did.

"Well, it's pretty simple." The detention leader said, thrusting a pair of plastic gloves and a trash bag out at Lauren. "Fill this bag with trash from campus and you'll be checked out. And, if you try anything cute like taking trash from a can, you're detention will be doubled. Understood?"

Lauren nodded, snapping on the rubber gloves. Picking up trash with the losers: how had she come to this?
