It's so public?

I lazily scroll through my phone, dodging the foot traffic in front of me as I walk through the busy campus. I'm starving. I make my way to the local hotspot cafe. The endless drone of students similar to me, just going through the motions, is quite entertaining. Everyone seems low energy and tired.

Except for those two?

Vi and Max sit together in a booth in the cafe, sharing one side instead of sitting separately. She's wearing a simple Black tee and jeans, he's wearing a hoodie and jeans. I have to step out of the doorway as I feel other students pushing into me, confused as to why I'm standing still like an idiot. I see her hand in his lap, the other on his shoulder, tracing light circles down towards his chest. I feel like I shouldn't be privy to this. A private, intimate moment not meant for me, my heart thumps hard in my chest. Max looks across the cafe and meets my eyes, he can barely hide his panic as he shifts and softly guides Vi's hands away from himself, and whispers something to Vi. She pouts and turns to me, she grins and winks as she calls across the cafe.

"Oh my god, Babe! Come join us!"
Why do I feel so humiliated? I walk across the cafe, a few eyes dart our way here, some make a face as they see me, the 'babe' sits across the girlfriend instead of next to, some smirk at the obvious power dynamic between Max and I.
"I don't think you've met Max, right, babe? He's the guy I did the assignment with!"
I nod slowly, and Max extends his hand.
"Hey dude, I think we met before... At the club?" I say with the clamest voice I can muster.
His eyes go slightly wide as he nods and takes my hand, "Oh yeah, that's right. I remember Vi mentioned that that night."
"Oh, you saw Vi that night too?"
Max barely hides his gulp as Vi eyes me naughtily. "Aha. Yeah, I did, didn't realise who you were at the time."
I nod and shrug in understanding. Yeah, I bet you had no idea.

"Ok, I have a question, the correct answer gets a prize." Vi suddenly says. Max and I both look at her curiously.
"What's the prize?"
She just winks at us both, "You'll see."
"Now. How do I take my coffee?"
Such an easy question? Vi has only ever drunk a cappuccino. Enough coffee and milk that it satisfies her, of course, I know the answer to this, why would she ask this?

Oh.

Max is looking at her finished cup, trying to remember what she ordered. Vi's eyes are on me. I see. I'm going to be wrong no matter what; this is the game. She's taking the next step. I look around the cafe. It's so public? What is the reward going to be? I shiver with nerves and pure anticipation.

"I think it's an oat latte, right?" I say. Laying it up for Max.
"Is it a cappuccino? I don't really drink coffee." Max mutters out, unsure of the goal of the game.
Vi lets out a small squeal and points her finger teasingly at me. "I expected better from you; maybe Max should be my boyfriend." She winks at me and slips an arm around his neck.
Max freezes, naturally, nervously glancing between me and Vi.
"Was just a lucky guess, I don't know about all that." He chuckles, trying to slip away from Vi.
"You don't want your reward?" She says with slight indignation, pouting, looking up at him, almost submissively.
He slips out of her grip and smiles as he glances at me, looking for a reaction. "Sure, what is it?"
She grins.

I have to put my hands in my lap as I try and stop my erection from busting through my pants. Vi grabs Max's face and kisses him on the lips. He freezes and his eyes go wide, he looks past Vi towards me, but I ensure that I give no visible facial reaction.
"C'mon, let me give you a proper reward." Vi whispers on his lips before kissing him again, I see her hand disappear under the table. Max squirms as Vi holds him tightly. Her lips attacking his.
She eventually lets him go and sits back, a wry grin on her face as she uses a finger to push away some saliva.
"You're welcome."
Max breathes heavily and looks towards me, an apologetic look on his face. A healthy dose of confusion is layered beneath. "Dude, I don't know-"
I put a hand up and shrug, "It's cool, you got the answer right."
He looks at me full of confusion.
"That's right, Maxy." Vi purrs. "Come over tonight, we can have a little Vi quiz." She giggles.
"Come over?"
"Yeah!" She puts a hand on his arm. "Ari can join, we can have a small pre-exam -letting-off-steam-gath." She smiles, a sickly sweet smile.
"Uh, I guess so."

Max and Vi leave soon after. Heading in different directions. I leave with them, and this all feels so fast. What just happened? Is this a mistake? What does Vi have planned for tonight?
