The Roommates

Cecily listened to Morgan once again explain why she was late with her half of the rent.

She said the restaurant where she was a hostess was not doing as much business as they had been, and her credit card interest rate had gone up.

Cecily did not believe a word of it. She and Morgan had been friends since high school. They had gone to college together, and after their freshman year in a dorm, they rented a small two-bedroom apartment off campus. They were both juniors and full-time students, and both worked part-time. Cecily worked in the campus counseling office, and Morgan as restaurant hostess as Cecily was a psychology major, and Morgan was a hospitality management major.

Cecily gave up arguing. She thought for a moment. "Will you at least help me with my psych 345 project after work?"

"Fine. I'll be home around 10:30."

"If you don't go out for drinks after work again," thought Cecily.

That night, Morgan came home on time, and though she was tired, but agreed to let Cecily put her into a hypnotic trance.

Cecily had been studying hypnosis for a couple years and thought she had stumbled upon a deeper form of hypnosis to put the subject into a trance so deep, they'd do anything.

Cecily set up a metronome and candle. She had Morgan look at the candle and listen to the tick-tock of the metronome. "Relax. Just breathe and relax. Listen to the tick tock and my voice, nothing else. Relax. The more you hear the metronome, the more relaxed you'll become."

A minute later, Morgan was in a deep trance.
