She laughed at me while I got up to clean my bowl, she was in no rush over her own food. "Trying to use me to get out of a lecture? I think you're fine, no way mom isn't dying to meet this girl, like the rest of us. But sure, I'll make sure things go smooth when I see her at lunch."

It was so weird, but really damn nice, to see Katherine acting like this again. Even if she was still putting a lot of snark on it. It seemed good natured now, not the snide venom I'd gotten used to. "Thanks Kath, I owe you a million."

On a whim I leaned in and kissed her forehead on my way out after grabbing my lunch from the fridge. She sputtered after, but didn't look displeased. "Get away from me you goober!" She laughed.

I did in fact see Amber on my way to the bus, but from across the street walking to her car.
