Chapter 10 by Verdant_Hatchling Verdant_Hatchling

How many?

A lot.

Damon was met with a grand gathering, well over fifty Dragons were scattered around the chamber, the largest ones at the center.

The lesser Dragons were discussing amongst themselves as Damon and Dovei went unnoticed. They slowly paced around the perimeter of the chamber, listening to the discussions, mainly consisting of gossip about a new Dragon King, which was true, Damon grinned to himself, he continued listening in as the larger Dragons began to discuss as well.

“I will not accept a new King, the last one nearly brought our race to destruction's door. We would surely follow in their steps.” A Green Dragon was quick to speak, but was interrupted by a much larger Iron Dragon.

“Will you be stopping him then, Egradorna? I’m not opposed to fighting it out with ‘em, but are you going to do it, you weakling?” As the second largest Dragon in the chamber roared out, a mighty cackling beset the gathered beasts. It continued, “If the newest Dragon King isn’t worthy, I’ll take ‘em down, but maybe we’ll finally be past all this bull about hiding our presence. Since when have the mighty Dragons hid away like vermin?” The Iron Dragon threw an accusatory glare at the largest Dragon.

The Platinum Dragon’s formerly neutral appearance dropped, quick to roar back, “Since that Goddess summoned thousands of beings with might comparable to ours! And that’s yours, at the very least, but there are no less than ten such beings, that I know of, that match my might!" We would fall easily if such a **** marched on us!” The fearsome Dragon stamped as he spoke, a quake rumbling through, though resettling soon after.

“Not with me.” An unknown voice spoke abruptly within the Council, drawing the gazes of all the beings in the chamber. Damon continued, a grin flashing upon his face, his voice booming outwards “I am the mighty Dragon King you’ve been idly gossiping over. Any of you punks have a problem with me taking over?” He posited, a sly intent clear.

Immediately, a rumble of discussion broke out, who was this person? Why had he come here? And apparent to them all was the presence of Dovei Argentum beside this being. She had been dragged along with Rathalian to find the Call. Drawing from the clues, he’d fallen, which made many presents shiver coldly, as he was stronger than the vast majority of them. Or had been, at least.

An abrasive voice called out, “So the mighty Rathalian has finally kicked the bucket. And you sure were quick to abandon him, weren’t you Dovei?” The Iron Dragon was making its way towards the pair, a grand roar rumbling its way up its maw.

But suddenly, the arrogant voice stopped, and fear was present in its eyes.

Damon had cast Eternal Petrification on the approaching entity, and surprisingly, it worked with ease, as the steely figure of the Dragon began to form into stone, a horrified expression apparent, as the unpetrified spots thrashed about, until it came to a full stop.

The various Dragons were utterly terrified. The second strongest figure of their Council was rendered dead in an instant. What chances did they stand?

These mighty beings were, for the first time they were truly afraid. Their kind were bread to only fear themselves, but even then only so much. But this being surpassed every aspect they could openly comprehend. And for those who couldn’t reel in their fear, they ran, or flew, away, but all who moved met the same fate as the Iron dragon before. Some stayed still in their steps, and others crashed from the sky, most retaining their shapes, though some were high enough to destroy their forms.

Damon was still, as were all the members of the Council, including the Platinum Dragonlord, who specifically was quite afraid. Even he would sustain some injuries competing against the Iron Dragon, but this figure had done it with ease, followed immediately by the execution of over fifteen more. He was lucky he hadn’t twitched.

“What about you, oh mighty Platinum Dragonlord? Do you wish to oppose my leadership?” Damon had a crazy glare across his expression, and though the interrogee went to respond in the negative unabashedly, he was interrupted as Damon released a fearsome roar, as he cast Dragon Form.

And quickly, Damon grew, monstrously so. His draconic body was easily twice the size of the Platinum Dragon, Damon was nearly too large to be contained within the chamber, an astonishment to all who bore witness to the horrific figure.

Over two hundred feet tall, Damon reared back his towering maw, releasing the familiar sickly beam into the sky, which left everyone blind, before fading.

As the sights of all within the chamber were regained, they were **** to witness their Council’s cove entirely bereft of a ceiling.

The Council members were left even more frightful, as such a feat only reinforced the previously established notion of him being the Dragon King, the true ruler of their entire race. All who had left the assembly would return en masse, regaining the lost numbers and more with ease.

Damon loosed a deafening cackle, before glaring at the petrified Council members which remained intact, as he cast Conjure Elder Elemental on every such Dragon corpse, to everyone's shock, leading to the formerly inert bodies to take up motion and life with the ancient creatures which were created to inhabit the draconic statues.

The previous counter had increased to a whopping 46 Dragon Subordinates, shocking Damon, as the fractured corpses reformed with the aid of the elementals. He was extremely giddy as he lazily roared out, “All who surrender to me now will remain on the Council, and alive of course. As for those who don’t? Just hurry up, so I can use your remains for my forces.” Damon was whimsically scheming, though the receivers of it felt a much more sinister vibe.

What do they think?
