Chapter 24 by Orlog4 Orlog4

What spell do you prefer?

Mind blow

The mind blow is the most common attack spell for mind mages. For a sadly high number of mind mages, it is also the only one. That’s why they rely on illusion and side weapons. There are mind mages who can create illusions so effective that it makes an enemy believe he is on fire. The body itself believes it is hurt and reacts that way, making the pain real. But this is so much above your current knowledge, that you don’t even need to try this now.

For now the mind blow is all you need. The chimera may be a monstrous creation of dark magic, but like any living being, it needs a working brain to survive. Time to try out how stable the mind of this one is. When your own mind is strong enough, you should be able to stun, hurt or maybe even knock the chimera out.

You focus on your runes, push all other thoughts aside and let the mana stream trough you. A circle of white light appears in your right hand and the runes you think about are created inside. When you are done, you focus on the chimera and activate the spell. The circle disappears and you can feel a wave of mental energy shooting towards the chimera.

The monster has taken a moment to observe you. From his perspective, it must look like you did nothing so far. Now it lost its patience and runs towards you, ready to bite your head off. The mental attack hits the chimera midway and immediately the chimera howls in pain. The results are impressive. The chimera throws itself around as if it could make the pain go this way. His screams have turned from aggressive to painful.

You must admit, the mind blow is kind of unfair towards a chimera. It works more effective the more complex a mind is. And the stronger the will of the victim, the better it can defend the mind blow. A chimera has the worst of both factors, since it’s mind has the skill to understand it’s surrounding and orders by its master, but it is also driven by its animal instincts and thirst for blood.

After a moment of watching the chimera fight, you can see it is getting back to its normal status. The mind blow is over. The chimera is still stunned, but in a few moments, it will be back and attack you again. You can’t allow this. You quickly pull our knife. Since mind mages are no fighters, you all have a special combat knife with you to defend yourself in situations like this. A quick sting to the monsters throat and a panicking, muffled gurgle later, the chimera is not moving anymore. It’s suffering, as well as the village peoples, is over.

Good job. Go on.
