Chapter 1489 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Start a new quest!

Island Adventure
Difficulty Rating: ?
Reward: Jewel of the Sea

You can see it now. Upon a board of various pages, you lay your hand upon single quest. You're back at the Adventurer's Guild, surrounded by men and women in armour or robes, armed with swords, halberds, staves, and more. Though still afraid of this new world, you have three companions. They're driving you insane, however. One is reckless and erotically ticklish, the other acts innocent but loves healing far too much, and the third accidentally keeps losing garments of her clothing. Somehow, you know things will work out.

But with a shake of your head, you're outside the main castle, and you've already gathered some of your people. It's far more than three now, though they're still present. Niki, Amara, and Eva stand before you, along with a handful of others.

Luna is there as well.

"It shall be so nice to take a break from work," says the moth. She brings her hands back through her cloud of impossibly soft hair, and sighs softly. When her wings flutter, a faint glistening cloud of dust raises and settles upon the ground near her feet. She's dressed in a navy dress that's rather generous with her leg. Around her ankles and wrists are fluffy bracers, though they aren't garments, but part of her unique insectrin body. Her antennae twitch. She looks to you, with boldly brushed lashes, and smiles warmly. "I thank you, King Kyle, for extending the invitation. I asked Laira, but that girl works far too hard. I did speak to her of the Jewel, and her eyes lit up like the flames of her forge, saying something about she hopes she can make it into a legendary weapon."

Niki carries many packs over her back, though she does so with no reaction. It was her idea. The weight does nothing to impede her speed. "Why are we bringing so much on a quest?" She wears her new, more Earthen attire, of jeans and a zip-up sweater.

"I believe luxuries were included to make this more of a mini-vacation," Amara explains. "Snacks, blankets, and the rest. It has been some time since we have been to the beach, so I am rather excited." Just like with Niki, she wears her new overalls and lovely white hat.

Eva, also dressed as the others are, with her low-cut white and lavender top tucked into a pair of shorts, grasps the strap of her new favourite purse and grabs Niki's arm. "Yeah! Aren't you excited?"

"What excites me is the thought if some sort of guardian beast," Niki replies. "Like uh... a diamond dragon, to guard the diamond. Maybe the Jewel of the Sea is the dragon."

"And then it turns into a woman and blows you good. Now everything makes sense," Stax jokes.

Fang wouldn't have stayed back if you **** her. She stands by Alice, who expressed interest when overhearing the plans from afar.

Next is Peony, who was not only ecstatic to go on what she now considers a date with you, but to see what sort of foliage may be found on a tropical island--a sort of place she's never been before. Then at last, all three of the new girls--Anastasia Phairgem, Ariusia, and Meti.

"All right!" you project your voice over the small crowd before you. "I think that's more than enough people. It may not be all that complex of a quest, and I was gonna only bring a few, but I can't deny any of you a beach adventure if that's what you want. Plus, I kind wanted you three new girls to come with us for something. Perfect timing I'd say."

"Wait!" comes a voice from afar. Thomas Whitham hurries down the way, and not far behind him is Vodrani the succubus. He stops near you, and kneels over to catch his breath. "Kyle. Can we please come too? I know you got a big group already, but--"

The clawed hand of Vodrani clutches his shoulder. She pushes him back, and steps forward. Her gaze is piercing, like you gave her boyfriend pickles when he asked for none. "I wish to go on a date with him. To the island."

"All right. You don't gotta be so serious about it," you say. "Of course you can come."

After hearing that, the two of them embrace.

"That's so sweet," murmurs Anastasia. But then she shakes her head. "B-But she's a succubus."

You, Niki, Amara, Eva, Luna, Fang, Alice, Peony, Anastasia, Ariusia, Meti, Tom, and Vodrani. Thirteen in total.

Probably more than we need, but hey. It's a beach trip! Lucky number thirteen too. Time to see what sort of chaos happens from this trip. Maybe the Jewel of the Sea will zap us all into being nude, or a giant octopus will attack and grab everyone with its tentacles. Perhaps the island will be alive, and actually be a giant woman's boob. I can't wait to see what sort of horrors we face.

Anastasia steps forward, placing a hand upon her chest. "I swear that if there is evil to be vanquished upon this island, I will face it no matter what, if you ask me to do so."

"You and me both, though probably different reasons," Ariusia says with a snicker. "What about you, Meti? Have you heard of this story?"

The djinn shakes her head. "There are many islands, and even more stories, especially out at sea. I'm afraid I'm not a sailor myself."

"I spoke to Mela." You shrug. "She said if that man is of the species Stax thought he may be, the name is aqulo. It apparently just means water-folk in another language. The aqulo are amphibious folk who live far across the sea to the east, and are often found as sailors in the region as well. So I mean, whether he's lying or not, his people would know the most about these sort of stories. But Mela also has never travelled that far, and her knowledge covers monsters more than distant humanoid species."

Tom raises his hand. "I have a question. How exactly are we going to get there? We don't have ships. Or a harbour. And we don't know exactly where the island is."

"Perfect question," you say, proudly raising a finger towards him. "That's the sort of skepticism I like to hear."

"I thought we were just gonna swim," Niki comments.

"That's a little far," speaks Luna from beside her. She pats the sunheart gentle on the head. "You might be the only one who would make it."

"But boobs are buoyant, right?"

"... What?" Eva asks, perplexed by that thought.

"Like if you have bigger boobs, you swim easier."

"That's not true. How often do you swim?"

"Very rarely. But like, you wouldn't notice, because yours are big too. Fang would struggle, but she could just ride on me."

Fang nods quickly. "She's so right. I'll gladly accept the ride. Look at me. I'm too flat to swim by myself~!"

Peony places her hands upon her own chest, though she certainly has a different physique than any of the others. "Is that true, m'lord? If that's the case, while I may not be as large, I will still allow you to ride me."

"Stop, stop, stop," you say, waving your hands in the air. "Please let me finish." Maybe this was a bad idea after all.

Stax chuckles. "We befriended a djinn, remember?"

You nod. "Thanks to Meti, we have something that'll help us. She's got all sorts of magical trinkets, and one such item is here," you say before presenting a wooden box. There's a drawing of a sail boat on the side, but otherwise, it looks mundane. "Portable Ship."

"I learned the hard way what it does," Stax admits. "I opened it, and was almost crushed just outside the castle."

You stow it away into a pouch at your side. Despite the rest dressing casually, you're wearing your suit of armour, specifically for the case of Peony. To her, you're a walking tree, allowing her to go where you do. Otherwise, everyone is wearing their relaxation garb. You're surprised even Niki hasn't garbed herself in armour, despite having just spoke of wanting to fight some sort of diamond guardian. Everyone's weapons are coming, but it seems that while she didn't admit it, everyone including her is doing this for a vacation.

Ariusia has a chain wrapped down from her left shoulder to her wrist--a weapon she uses to grab her opponents, as he has no need for anything more given two swords grow from her back. Anastasia carries a mace as well as a censer. Niki of course has a mace and shield, while Amara wields a staff, and Eva a wand. Fang has her daggers, Tom uses a bow and blade, and that's about it otherwise. Everyone else fights without any sort of weapon, or not at all.

"Are you sure you don't want your armour?" Eva asks, looking to Niki. "Worried it'll be too hot?"

"Oh no. I wouldn't be bothered if it were twice the temperature higher, or just as much colder. Sunhearts are resilient against all weather. I just find this pretty comfy. Plus, if you combine my Rite of the Sun markings with my elite class, I could probably fight completely naked."

"... I mean, I don't ever wear armour, so I guess I could too."

"No, no. You must not!" Anastasia blurts out. When eyes turn back to her, she covers her mouth with embarrassment. "Apologies," she whispers.

"Don't worry. She was like that before too," Ariusia says. "I don't think we'll ever get the Varat out of the girl."

"Please don't speak of me like I'm not present. Lasis is always with me. I don't wish to exorcize anything from my body."

"So here's the plan," you say, stealing everyone's attention back yet again. I swear I need some keys to jingle. "It'll be heavy on me, but I'm going to Bunny Hop all twelve of you and attempt to land on the island we can see on the map. It'll be good practice for me anyway. You can all swim if you have to, right?"

Niki looks down, and slowly grabs onto her own chest. "Yes--"

"I told you, they don't work that way!" Eva shouts.

"Hopefully it won't matter anyway," you continue. "Then we summon the boat, get on, and sail east in hopes of finding the island nearby. Should only be a couple hours at most. This is why I was a little worried for the number of people we have, but there is quite a bit of room. It's bigger than you might think."

"But don't break it, all right?" Stax chimes in.

Alice remains silent, staring down at her hand.

You look over. "Hey. Are you all right?" you ask.

It takes her a moment to realize you're speaking to her. "Oh? Yes. I am fine," she responds in her usual monotone voice. A magical cyan glow flickers in her irises.

"I'm glad you're coming with us."

She then smiles. "I am as well."

After everything, she needs a vacation maybe more than a lot of us do. She saw her entire species fight us, some fell in combat, while many disappeared into the world. My Kitty Sense struggles to read her. I don't know if it's because she's a robot, or because her feelings are more complex than most right now. But from what I can tell, she isn't sad. It may look it, but it takes a lot for her to physically expressive a high level of emotion. I think she's just been thinking a lot about everything. Deep down, she seems content. It makes sense. Her people are free. Their maniacal creator is gone.

"Then let's go to the beach."

What do you do?
