Bonnie gets the white ball

Then again, maybe she was overthinking it.

"Thank you," said Bonnie politely, reaching to accept the white ball. It fell into her open hand.

Then it exploded. Spattering Bonnie from head to toe with custard and cream.

The clown smirked at her. He pulled another white ball out of his pocket, and tossed it from hand to hand. Then, he turned and ran away.

Bonnie gave chase. Had that door been there before? She didn't have time to think about it, before she tumbled through, and out into what seemed very much like a New York subway station.

Bonnie, nude, spattered with cream, gaped at the passing crowds. Why were they wearing 1930s clothes? She saw a bootblack nudge a newspaper boy and shout "Hot damn! A dame!"

"And she's nekkid as a jaybird," added the newspaper boy, who of course was over eighteen. (Do you really need to ask?) "Why, that's a hoot and a holler and no mistake."

Bonnie yelped, clasped her hands to her breasts and set off after the clown, who was fleeing up the stairs. She chased him ten blocks through 1930s New York before he found another door, this one opening onto what appeared to be the ancient city of Babylon. A long pursuit ensued through Tang Dynasty China, Belle Epoque Paris, Shakespeare's London, Nero's Rome, 1960s San Francisco and what appeared to be a space station in orbit around Jupiter before Bonnie tumbled through the final door, which opened directly onto a gigantic vat of cold custard.

The clowns dragged her out of the custard, naked and sticky. They dragged her to a sideshow booth and strung her up, naked and spread-eagled. Then they let the entire population of Pinkwhistle pelt her with banana cream pies for what seemed like a very long time, before handing her the white ball and letting her go.
