He does, and he still has a shot!

Izuku grunted as he pulled himself back up, the crowd arriving to the chasm as well, and looked to see Setsuna and Ochaco, once again airborne, not far behind him. He quickly made his way the rest of the way past the chasm, and ran as fast as he could manage, before stopping short as he reached the final obstacle. A fucking mine field! Fortunately, Bakugo had caught up to Todoroki, and destroyed his ice ramp, both now halfway across the field, but on foot, and sabotaging each other's efforts to get airborne again. Good, they were keeping each other occupied again.

Izuku stared at the field, his mind racing. He couldn't clear the field in a single leap, and while he doubted the mines were lethal, they would no doubt hurt like a bitch, and fuck with his footing. Thankfully, their locations were marked, albeit subtly, just enough to make one have to keep a close eye to know where they were. He started using the metal plate to start digging, a crazy, absurd plan coming to mind... One that might just be crazy enough to work.

Everyone ran up, Ochaco and Setsuna floating above, their strategy perfect for clearing the mines. They passed by Izuku, several giving him skeptical looks as he dug up mines, and piled them up. "Izuku?" Tsuyu asked as she hopped up. "What are you doing, ribbit?"

"Winning," he replied simply, digging up another mine. She stared for a second, clearly debating as to whether her Master had lost his mind, before she started to carefully make her way across the mine field.

Izuku waited several until he had a large pile of mines, and saw Bakugo and Todoroki noticing the fact that Ochaco and Setsuna were gaining on them, and abandoned their efforts to sabotage each other, and were getting airborne with their Quirks again. Time to act!

He leapt onto the pile of mines, holding the sheet of metal under him as he did, intending to ride it through the air as it was blasted by the mines. "Here goes!" he grunted, bracing himself. KABOOM! All of the mines had gone off at once, and as Izuku had hoped, he was sent flying through the air at a fast rate.

Almost everyone stopped to gawk at the scene. "...is he some kind of lunatic!?" Kyoka grumbled, having had to cover her ears due to the blast going off nearby, and her enhanced hearing.

Bakugo and Todoroki looked up just in time to see Izuku pass by Ochaco and Setsuna, who had briefly stopped pulling them to gape in shock. "Hey Izuku!" Ochaco waved, more amused than anything else as he flew over the heads or the two in the lead, currently taking first place... Which they weren't taking laying down, pouring on speed as Izuku slowed, coming down.

However, just as they were about to overtake him, he landed, deliberately slamming the piece of metal down onto the mine laden ground with his feet, using the momentum to kick off of it just as it set off some more mines, stunning both Todoroki and Bakugo and causing them to lose their own momentum. Izuku fully cleared the mine field, and began running like hell as the two managed to recover, and where charging after him, Bakugo cursing up a storm. Izuku briefly wondered if they could enforce the swear jar rules here as he sprinted for the finish line.

"...we're dating a madman," Setsuna remarked to Ochaco, not sure if she should be exasperated, or turned on... She settled for both.

"Yes, yes we are~!" Ochaco laughed.
