Chapter 77 by sexyslave sexyslave

Uh oh! Can Jaune talk his way out of this one?

Thankfully, the evidence is in his favor.

"...Mr. Winchester, and Mr. Arc, would you both care to explain what exactly happened?" Ozpin asked about 15 minutes later, after Glynda had all but literally dragged them both to his office.

Before Jaune could even open his mouth, Cardin immediately began spinning his narrative. "Jaune attacked me in the locker room when I was just in there to check on my equipment," he spoke quickly. "He was completely out of control, Ms. Goodwitch saw it when she came to investigate the commotion. He slammed me against his locker several times, then pinned me to the floor! I have no idea what got into him!"

"...Mr. Arc? What's your side of the story?" Ozpin asked calmly, giving Cardin a skeptical look, and Jaune sighed in some preemptive relief. At the very least, they weren't automatically believing the bully like staff in his previous schools had before.

"Professor, none of what Cardin said was true," Jaune spoke, trying to stay calm. "He has been a jerk to me since yesterday, but I swear, I never started anything. I was just finishing it today. He stuffed me in my locker, and tried to send me off to Oum only knows where, he was just putting in the coordinates while I was kicking the door open. I managed to distract him by pretending that Ms. Goodwitch had walked in, and used the seconds I bought to finish breaking out, and knocked him down with the door as it had opened. I then pinned him and was just giving him a warning to not try me again when Ms. Goodwitch, no doubt hearing the commotion, walked in for real."

"He's lying!" Cardin huffed, crossing his arms.

"Unfortunately, we do not have cameras in the locker rooms, for obvious reasons," Ozpin mused, gazing at Jaune and Cardin. "Do either of you have evidence to back up your claims?"

"She saw him attacking me!" Cardin protested, pointing at Ms. Goodwitch, who sternly adjusted her glasses.

"What I saw, Mr. Winchester, is consistent with both accounts. Therefore, a further look into it is in order," she stated.

Jaune's mind raced for any points he could raise in his favor. The ball was in his court now, so... "...well, for starters, it happened at my locker, and Cardin's is several rows down. Why would he come over to mine if I was the one who instigated?" he pointed out first as Ozpin gazed in assessment at him. "...um, second, the damage to the locker... It should be consistent with damage inflicted from the inside of I had to kick my way out, right?" Ozpin nodded, a faint smile on his lips. "...and finally, Cardin's fingerprints should be on the keypad of my locker... Which should have no reason to be there unless he was actively tampering with it?" he finished.

Cardin paled as he realized he was backed into a corner. "...we will of course be looking into that," Ozpin nodded. "Mr. Winchester, assuming Mr. Arc's points prove to be true, do you wish to change your story?"

Cardin shivered, and had the sense to nod, realizing he was trapped. "...he's right, sir."

Ozpin gazed sternly at Cardin, before nodding. "In that case, Glynda, if you would be so kind as to escort Mr. Winchester out? I'll leave the details of disciplinary action in your capable hands."

Ms. Goodwitch nodded, and Cardin walked out with her, shooting a relieved Jaune a glare. Once they were gone, Ozpin gazed at Jaune. "Stay a moment while we have a chat, if you would, Mr. Arc."

What does Ozpin want to discuss?
