Chapter 81

The Other Guy
Go home to confront your dad, or just go and get dinner with your friends?
Actually a bath seems good
You look at Stephanie and smile at her. "Thank you. Don't know if I could have thought of that myself."
Stephanie smiled and bowed her head slightly. "It is a privilege to know I assisted you." The delight in her voice made you feel really bad about your momentary flirting with megalomania. "Your restraint towards that woman was impressive. I do not know if there are many nobles who wouldn't have retaliated."
You shrug. "I don't really care what she thinks about anything." It was as simple as you could put it. "I'll see you tomorrow." You walk towards the Dorm leaving Stephanie to watch you depart and you presume wait for the liquid metal you'd left behind to cool enough to be cleaned up.
As you walk you stretch your perception out to try and find Asune. You assumed she would be waiting around the corner only slightly more conspicuously than usual. Her absence leave you a little disappointed. You'd gotten used to her ambush technique when it came to your relationship, a new development was worrying. You really hoped she wasn't waiting in your room.
With concerns about her ability to enter your and Edin's room without your consent you enter the building. You assumed at least Vatarie would be hanging around to talk to you but she every is absent. There are a few students milling about waiting for the dinner service to start but no one you know.
You walk past them to the baths. Opening the door out of the foyer you are greeted by a populated hallway. Lots of students were standing outside the baths waiting to go in. It takes a second before you figure out that the reason you didn't see this yesterday is because yesterday a chunk of the student body wasn't watching Stephanie's class.
Most of the students were chatting in groups but when you showed up a lot of attention was turned to you. Your two showings at Stephanie's lessons must be a confusing piece of gossip. The first time extraordinary but unwitnessed, the second time worst that useless. You think to yourself how a few mintues ago this would have been significantly more embarrassing for you, now you just feel even more excited to practice imbuing.
"Trouble, right on time." Lucia said waving at you as she walked out of the bottom class baths.
"Actually –" You start then watch as several students try to rush the bath door before one wins out. "Yeah sounds good." You don't think you'll get into the baths in any sort of timely manner. At least you haven't done anything that made you sweat today so waiting until after dinner won't be bad.
"Great follow me." Lucia walked past you and into the foyer.
You spin on your heel wondering if she had considered just waiting for you at Stephanie's lesson to save the both of you some effort. She walks outside with you next to her, a few people look at you but most were too busy chatting with friends or peaking through the dinning hall door to care.
When you get leave the building she walks you around the side and onto the grassy area you and the sister had had lunch on. The blanket is gone so they must have grabbed it at some point, or had a staff member do it for them.
Lucia takes her place on the grass and motions for you to stand back. "I've been practicing but I can't get my dragon to move around me as fluidly when I dance. So you are going to move your dragon around me as I dance so I can see how it should look."
"I'm still not performing with you." You say wanting to be very clear on this point.
"I know which is why I'm ask you to help. Now stop complaining and start conjuring." Lucia said with hands on hips and eyes thoroughly rolled.
"You know I can see your aura right?" You ask after having watched her aura colour with self-satisfaction as she lied.
"Shut up and conjure." She said turning to face away from you. "Follow my movements and make sure your dragon doesn't touch me."
You sigh and conjure your dragon. Expanding it to the same size as when you saw her dancing on the street. She spreads her arms out and you move your dragon to coil around her arms. As she starts to move you careful fly your dragon around her. It is actually pretty hard to keep the dragon moving naturally as she dances.
Rather unhelpful is that she is a very good dancer. It was something like a ballet crossed with ribbon dancing and extraordinary to watch. Her body moved so naturally and fluidly as she imparted tiny fractions of magic into her feet to proper her into the air to almost twice her own height. You did your best to keep your dragon up with her and make it look natural but you don't know the dance and have to alter its speed to prevent it from passing through her.
After a while your focus is starting to drift. Not because of your inability to maintain your dragon just from having to do so while watching an exceptional display of magic and physicality. Your dragon freezes for a moment and her arm passes through it.
You try to recover but Lucia stops her dance and says, "Ok so getting the wings and tail right is where I'm having difficulty." She says without commenting on your accident. "I think I can keep the scales under my dragons wing vague since people won't be seeing it but the getting those little movements that you make as it changes directions is really hard."
"Let your magic do the work on that on. You should study hope birds fly, one you understand the movements they make to change direction your magic can make your dragon look way more natural without you having to focus on it." You say walking over to her. "You're extraordinary by the way."
"I should be I've been practicing since I could walk. Can you show me?" She brushed off your compliment and went back to work.
"Sure." You put your dragon between them and started to walk her through how the dragon would move it's wings and tail to change direction. She asked questions regularly making things as clear as she could for herself.
Once you were done she looked at you and asked, "How did you learn these things?"
"I was a curious kid," with a modern education far beyond this worlds. You don't say the last bit but have to acknowledge that is the simple fact. "Plus it helped when I was learning to fly." You add.
"You what?" Lucia looked at you then laughed. "Oh right." She looks at the sincere expression on your face. "You can't fly."
"It's easy once you know how to do it," and have a modern education where flight had already been conquered by humans. Again leaving that last part out.
"No you're not getting me you can not fly."
"Prove it." She says.
At that point you figure out that other people can't fly. You remember thinking you shouldn't fly because there were probably laws to prevent it because you didn't see anyone doing it. Which now means that you would be announcing something you can do that no one, or at least not many people, can do. Is proving a point really that important to you?
To fly or not to fly?

You are reborn into another world of magic and fantasy. How you live is your choice, the consequences are as well.
The world of Calitian is a world of magic whose sentient inhabitants vary from human to decidedly not. You are rather unexpectedly reborn into this world however you do not get the expected god delivered spiel about said rebirth so you are on your own. This should be interesting.
