A Day in White Hollow Part 3
The morning sun cast a pale, wintry glow over the sprawling grounds of White Hollow Correctional Facility. Frost clung stubbornly to the chain-link fences, and the air carried a biting chill that seemed to seep into every corner of the institution. Inside, the facility hummed with the subdued tension of routine—guards patrolled the halls, their boots echoing ominously, while inmates shuffled silently between tasks, their heads low.
The aftermath of Red Elk’s transformation loomed like an unspoken shadow over everyone. Garrett’s growing influence, though subtle, had begun to shift the dynamics within the facility, rippling through the staff and inmates like an unseen current. Among the guards, tension simmered as loyalties were tested and whispers of favoritism spread, while inmates began forming unspoken hierarchies centered around Garrett’s perceived authority. These subtle shifts were unraveling the rigid structure that once defined White Hollow. Yet beneath this current, the cracks in White Hollow’s control system began to widen, exposing vulnerabilities that no one could ignore.
Anita Williams sat rigidly in her office, the monitor in front of her glowing with the paused frame of a security recording. Across the screen, Garrett Silver moved with unnerving ease through the corridors. Anita’s lips pressed into a thin line.
The phone on her desk buzzed sharply, breaking her focus. She leaned forward, glancing at the caller ID before picking up. “Yes, Laura?”
“Anita,” Laura Carter’s voice came through, steady but with an unmistakable edge. “I need to speak with you about Garrett Silver.”
Anita leaned back in her chair, bracing herself. “What about him?”
“We’ve been reviewing the reports,” Laura began, her tone measured. “Kathrin’s investments depend on the success of these programs, and Garrett is key to that success. But we need him monitored more closely.”
“He’s already under constant surveillance,” Anita replied, her voice tight.
“It’s not enough,” Laura said firmly. “Rachel suggested an adjustment—having Garrett assist in the administrative office. It will allow us to observe him directly while keeping him occupied. Given Garrett’s unique capabilities and potential risks, it’s a logical move. His proximity to key operations will ensure immediate intervention if needed, while also leveraging his skills to improve efficiency. And frankly, I agree with her.” And frankly, I agree with her.”
Anita’s stomach tightened. “Rachel suggested this?”
“Yes,” Laura confirmed. “She’s been proactive in offering solutions, which is more than I can say for some others.”
Anita’s jaw clenched. “Rachel is ambitious, but assigning someone like Garrett to the office is… unconventional. And frankly, unnecessary. I don’t need a Deputy Director questioning my methods.”
“Your personal feelings about Rachel are irrelevant,” Laura interjected sharply. “This isn’t about you, Anita. It’s about the program’s success. Rachel’s suggestions make sense, and she’s earned my confidence. I expect you to implement this by the end of the week.”
Anita opened her mouth to argue, but Laura cut her off.
“And one more thing,” Laura said. “Rachel’s proposals were sent to you as well. I understand you haven’t reviewed them thoroughly. Perhaps if you had, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
Anita’s grip on the phone tightened. “I’ll review them.”
“Good,” Laura replied, her tone softening slightly. “Anita, we all want this to work. But if you can’t manage the situation by year’s end, Kathrin and I will need to consider alternatives. Make it work.”
The line went dead. Anita set the phone down slowly, her mind racing. Rachel’s interference was becoming intolerable, but Laura’s directive left her no room to maneuver. For now, she had **** but to play along.
Her eyes returned to the monitor, where Garrett’s figure moved through the corridors. The cracks in her control felt more like fault lines, and the weight of Laura’s expectations pressed heavily on her shoulders. By the end of the week, she would have to bring order to White Hollow—or face the consequences.
Anita spent the next hour poring over Rachel’s proposals. Each suggestion, though grating to her pride, was meticulously crafted and showed a deep understanding of the facility’s inner workings. Anita couldn’t deny that Rachel had a sharp mind. The suggestion to move Garrett into the administrative office, though unconventional, had its merits. The tension in her chest grew heavier. Implementing these changes meant relinquishing a sliver of control, and Anita despised the thought. But Laura’s ultimatum left her ****.
Her email inbox pinged with a notification just as she leaned back in her chair. The subject line was simple: “Approval: Santiago and Elliot - ATD Integration”. Anita opened it with a frown, skimming the contents. The decision had already been made. Santiago and Elliot would be enrolled in the program, and the notice came directly from Laura’s office. Anita gritted her teeth. Her "friends" were bypassing her completely.
Heather’s cold, calculated demeanor had become sharper with every passing day she spent under Garrett’s shadow. She could still remember the conversation that had set her on this path. Garrett’s quiet, commanding voice had filled the room as he outlined his vision for White Hollow—a place where loyalty and discipline reigned supreme. He had looked her in the eye and said, "Heather, you’re not like the others. You see what needs to be done, and you’re not afraid to act." The words had stuck with her, fueling her transformation into the enforcer she now was, willing to go to any lengths to ensure his vision became reality.
Today, the three guards who had failed him would learn exactly how seriously she took her role in his ascent. In an unused storage room, Valerie, Marisol, and Sofia stood trembling before her. Heather’s presence was suffocating, her uniform immaculate as she paced in front of them like a predator circling its prey.
“You think you can let this slide?” Heather’s voice was low, but the menace in her tone made the women flinch. She threw a file onto the table between them, its contents spilling out: detailed reports, security footage stills, and Garrett’s medical evaluation.
Valerie, usually confident, barely managed to meet Heather’s icy stare. “It… it wasn’t our fault,” she stammered. “Santiago and Elliot—they pushed it too far.”
Heather slammed her hands onto the table, making all three women jump. “Do not try to shift blame. You were there. You had authority. And you… failed.”
Heather stepped closer to Valerie, her eyes narrowing. “Maybe that’s the problem. Maybe you were too distracted to do your job. Thinking about the inmates, perhaps? Thinking about things you shouldn’t?”
The insinuation made Valerie’s face flush. “That’s not true,” she muttered, her voice barely audible.
Heather’s smile was razor-sharp. “Oh, isn’t it? Then why do I see three unfocused guards who can’t follow orders? Maybe I should remind you of what discipline looks like.”
Marisol opened her mouth to protest, but Heather silenced her with a glare. “Enough. Since you clearly can’t control yourselves, I’ll make sure you remember who’s in charge.”
Heather ordered them to line up against the wall, her tone brooking no argument. She approached Valerie first, her voice dropping to a chilling whisper. “Pull your pants down,” she said sharply.
Valerie froze, glancing nervously at the others. “Now,” Heather barked, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Reluctantly, Valerie obeyed, followed hesitantly by Marisol and Sofia. Heather stepped behind them, her boots clicking against the floor as she circled her prey. She leaned in close to Valerie, her voice dripping with mockery. “You thought daydreaming about inmates was more important than your job? Maybe you need a clearer reminder of your priorities.”
The room was thick with tension as Heather’s discipline became both physical and psychological. Each slap landed with precision on their Butts, drawing sharp gasps from the guards. Valerie bit her lip, trying to hold back tears as the sting radiated across her skin. Marisol clenched her fists, trembling, caught between humiliation and anger. Sofia, unable to maintain her composure, let out a small sob, her body shaking with every strike. Heather’s voice cut through the silence like a blade, delivering biting remarks that dug into their pride and left them feeling exposed and powerless. The room hung heavy with tension, their shame and discomfort palpable as Heather’s relentless control broke their defiance piece by piece. She alternated between mocking them and issuing harsh commands, her words cutting deep into their pride.
Tears welled in their eyes, but the ATD’s influence muted their natural instincts to resist. Their shame was palpable, an oppressive weight that pressed down on them, amplifying their vulnerability. While their bodies trembled with the urge to push back, the subtle rewiring of their minds dulled that defiance, leaving only submission in its wake. Heather’s relentless control took full advantage of this fragile state, shattering their pride and leaving them exposed. By the end, the three women were visibly shaken, their faces red from humiliation and the sting of Heather’s discipline.
Heather stepped back, surveying her work with a cold satisfaction. “Let this be a lesson,” she said, her tone icy. “Next time, you’ll think twice before failing again.”
The guards hurried out, their movements unsteady, the weight of their shame bearing down on them. Heather lingered in the room, a small, satisfied smile playing on her lips. Garrett’s importance had become her anchor, her purpose. She would do whatever it took to protect him—and to ensure that those who failed him suffered the consequences.
Amina strode into Miranda’s office, her heels clicking sharply against the polished floor. Miranda barely looked up from her monitor, her mind racing as she considered the potential fallout from Amina’s visit. The tension in her shoulders betrayed her unease; she wasn’t ready for another confrontation today. Yet as Amina stepped closer, her authoritative presence filled the room, forcing Miranda to focus and steel herself for the inevitable discussion.
“We need to talk,” Amina began, her tone firm.
Miranda sighed, finally meeting her gaze. “What about?”
“The inmates,” Amina replied, stepping closer. “Specifically, why they haven’t been exposed to the ATD yet. We both know what happened with Garrett wasn’t his fault. He’s not the problem here.”
Miranda leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. “You’re preaching to the choir, Amina. I’ve wanted to expand the program for weeks, but Anita blocked it.”
Amina raised an eyebrow. “Then she’ll be happy to hear it’s been approved. I just saw the confirmation myself. Santiago and Elliot are going in. We’ll start with them." Miranda’s gaze lingered for a moment, reflecting the weight of the decision. She knew the risks—these two inmates were volatile, unpredictable. But Amina’s calm determination reassured her. If they could rewire Santiago and Elliot successfully, it would prove the ATD’s full potential. The stakes were high, but so were the rewards.”
Miranda’s lips twitched into a small smile. “Finally. And you want to help tailor the programs?”
Amina nodded. “Of course. They’re dangerous now, but with the right adjustments, they’ll be... manageable.”
Miranda chuckled softly, her confidence returning. “Let’s get to work.”
