Dani’s ready for Matt. It’s time to “break up”

She was right—this was it, the exact moment which your plan had been working towards. This latest display of her playing sports, playing basketball with you, had clearly been the thing to bring Matt fully onside with the concept of Dani as a girlfriend.

And despite your enjoyment of your time with her, it was obvious upon the plan coming to fruition that you wouldn’t be able to delay things any longer—he clearly wanted her, she clearly wanted him—and all that was left was for you to get out of the way, in such a way that there would be no doubt left in any of your minds.

“Yeah,” you whisper to her, quickly nodding. You take her hand—sending a sudden colour to her pale cheeks—while you casually jog closer to Matt.

As the two of you stop, you realise, rather suddenly, that neither of you have given any kind of thought to how the breakup would actually play out—which almost causes you to stop dead in your shoes. Maybe you should bring Dani back to try and game plan it out?

Fortunately for the both of you, though, her improvisational skills and her desire for Matt take over and she starts things off strong, wiping the smile off her face before launching the basketball right at your face—which you barely get your hands up in time to block.

“You asshole!” she shouts, turning her back to Matt, and sharing with you a private smile—just making sure you know that none of this is really serious—“bringing up some other girl while we’re out on a date? That’s it—we’re through!”
You’re left entirely speechless, managing to just barely get out a, “whatever,” accompanied by a tossing up of the hands, and a good old-fashioned stomp off.

As you storm off, you see from the corner of your eye a pouting Dani making her way over to Matt—who seems almost too eager to give her the comfort she’s seeking—though when she catches your glance, she gives you an almost imperceptible smile and wink, before you turn back around.
