Old Rule about Diapers

Layla smiled mischievously to herself. If everyone expected her to be incontinent, then it wouldn’t be a problem anymore. And if the people around her were also incontinent, that would be all the better.

She opened the notebook and started writing.

[OLD RULE: 25-year-olds like me are expected to be totally incontinent, having never learned to use the toilet or even notice when they need to go, and are years away from learning.]

[OLD RULE: Toilet training is normally started at age 30, and everyone who is not toilet trained wears diapers.]

[OLD RULE: Anyone who is not yet toilet trained is hairless in their diaper area so they are easier to clean and they are also immune to diaper rashes.]

As soon as she finished writing, Layla felt an increased crinkling in her pants as though it had already been there. She looked around the cafe, seeing crinkly diapers poking out under waistbands and suddenly smelling stale urine from someone near her. As she watched, she saw a woman of maybe 20 years squat while carrying her coffee to her table, the seat of her pants suddenly swelling, before continuing as if nothing had happened.

Layla smiled, knowing she never needed to feel awkward about her condition again and not knowing she herself was following the other woman’s lead and filling her own diaper. She looked at the book again and asked herself, should she make another rule? And if so, what rule?
