Slipping out of the mansion was a simple matter, the guards had no idea Runa had come and gone.

The next step of Runa's plan, sliding an envelope of evidence through the window of a trustworthy city guard's office, also went well. She observed the mansion from a distance (in her civilian garb, with no mask on) as the mansion was raided. Hal Jacobs was escorted out in handcuffs, and the three captive women in the basement were freed. Everything had gone according to Runa's plan.

At least, in the short term. But she had underestimated the corruption in this nation.

Due to how high profile this incident was, word of it reached the queen herself. And she took an immediate interest in Hal Jacobs' potions. She took such an interest, in fact, that she gave him a royal pardon and a new position as the royal alchemist. He now had access to funding and resources far beyond what was available even to one of the wealthiest merchants in the city.

Wracked with guilt over how her actions had somehow elevated this sinister alchemist, Runa ended up donating all of the funds she'd stolen from Jacobs to the shelter that had taken the three captive women in. That helped her conscience a small amount, but it meant she did not have the funds on-hand to pay for a curse removal, and it would take some time for the effects of the potions she'd inhaled to fade. Time she didn't have, as she was already determined to make a new move.
