A Different Perspective

“Hungry. Hungry…HUNGRY!!” These were the prevailing thoughts running through the small creature’s mind as it oozed its way through the duct work.

It was a small slime resembling only an inky purple puddle. Only when it extended a tendril of its body would someone be able to tell it was actually a condensed pink.

The slime wasn’t completely sure how it had gotten into this strange place or exactly what it had been doing before it got here. What it did understand was that it was starving and nearly delirious. It remembered passing through a door into this alien world.

Once through, loud alarms had blared all around. Through some extrasensory means, the slime sensed a possible threat. It quickly took refuge within a small grate. Hunger wracked the creature, and it moved through the small metallic ductwork in search of a meal.

After what felt like an eternity, the slime caught a whiff of an intoxicating smell. It was a familiar and irresistible scent that drove the slime to near delirium. The intense scent drew the slime to it. Propelled by instinct and an insatiable desire to feed, the small slime worked its way into the air vent above a small room.

The room was filled with metal cabinets. Some benches ran through the center of the aisles. Someone was down in the room, a human, and their smell was divine. It was stronger than anything the creature had experienced before. Instinct told the starving slime to go after it. The slime had deduced that the human was in fact male from the pheromones he was emanating.

Momentarily paralyzed between caution and desire, the slime sat motionless while observing the man. He was potent and would likely be an excellent source of nutrition. Unfortunately before the slime could act, the male human left. Before leaving, the male placed objects into a cabinet and shut the door.

His scent still lingered in the room.

Once the purple ooze was sure there was no danger nearby, it dripped through the air vent opening onto the cold tile floor of the room. Should it follow the man or wait in ambush?

Shimmering with excitement, it scoured the room in search of remnants of the scent, being careful to remain as hidden as possible. Eventually, it found its mark coming from within one of the cabinet doors. The face of the door had vents, and the small creature wriggled its gelatinous body inside.

Within the cabinet, the slime discovered a fragrant prize in a worn bag. The slime decided that the safest route would be to wait for the male to return while feasting on the contents of the bag for now. It would wait for the ideal time, preferably when the male was alone, and attack.
