Chapter 8 by GyroscopicGraphite GyroscopicGraphite

"Now then."

"Wake up."

She snapped back to life, jumping up in shock before recalibrating her posture, blinking and rubbing her eyes. She looked around confusedly before resettling her eyes on Jehnova. "Ta-da!" he exclaimed, trying his best to not let on how nervous he was. She stared at him with a very disorientated look on her face. "Did, d-did I just..." she stammered out, a pale white tone slowly washing over her face. Noticing her shock setting in, he explained it how he had practiced.

"It's a neat little feature of these bad boys," he said, tapping on the glasses. "They can put people to sleep. I don't really know how it works, but it works. Pretty cool right?" She stared for a moment, seemingly processing what he had just said, before the color returned to her face and she breathed a sigh of relief, cracking a small grin. "Ah, I see. So it was just your little trick. I thought I had fallen asleep like while you were talking. That would've been quite rude of me." She chuckled to herself. He too, internally sighed in relief, seeing as how she seemed to believe him. "Say though, how come you weren't put to sleep as well?" she inquired. "That's because I closed my eyes, as per the paper manual that came with it. I think it said something about visuals and brainwaves and psycology and all that, but I honestly don't remember to well."

Unbeknownst to him, however, she saw through his silly lies. After all, her Master's degree was in Psycology, and so she knew that putting someone to sleep with flashing lights is more akin to something from a really bad hypnosis show than concrete science. It defied everything but the most theoretical conceptions of the human mind, and certainly wouldn't be possible with those gaudy things on his face. However, the facts remained that she did fall asleep, and he had an explanation prepared, indicating that that was actually what happened. Honestly it was a perferable outcome to the alternative, but it raised questions she wasn't quite willing to ask. Not yet.

"Well then, shall I be on my way now?" she said, wanted to end the frankly embarrassing interaction. "Yeah, I gotta get back to work anyways," he replied, putting the glasses and his phone away. "See you next time," he added, picking his mop up. Kaguya smiled at him. "See you," she said, before heading down the hall to whatever room she spent her days in. She stopped after a moment, however, swiveling around on one foot. "Say, could you show me those glasses again tomorrow? I'm curious about them."

He was a little suprised. She just offered to see the glasses again? Just like that? He smirked to himself, answering "Alright then, I'll bring them tomorrow," to which she replied "Thank you, Mr. Jehnova," waving as she left. She whistled while walking down the hall, something else he had never heard her do before. He grinned and sighed, shaking his head in amusement. Maybe this will be easier than he thought.
