How does the Party go?
How do you think!
I ended up walking over to the party area with Kat in hand, smiling like a god damn idiot. This was literal hell. Everyone around seemed so happy, making it all worse. Not that any of them knew about the real situation.
Sarah ran up to us. "Why didn't you tell me you were gonna propose! It was so beautiful! I'm gonna cry," she said.
"It was kind of a last minute thing," I said laughing.
"At least I was able to get a date," Sarah said pointing to a girl walking up behind her. She was short, more of a bob haircut. Black hair, and her expression was almost blank.
"I hope your union becomes a happy one," she said.
"Hope? Lisa! Don't be so negative," Sarah said.
"You look familiar," Kat said looking at Lisa.
"You, me and Sarah are in Kedder's English class," she said. "Sarah. I wish to dance," she paused. "Please."
"Yes, go dance! Enjoy! I don't want everyone crowd on us all at once," I said. God, not perfect but at least I was able to sort of say what I wanted.
A different woman walked up. "I know I know, everyone's crowding you, but I hope for some of your time, especially before your parents find you," she said.
"Our parents?" I said as my heart froze. "They are here?"
"Of course! I invited them. Wouldn't want them to miss the special day, would ya?" she asked. "I'm Chloe Martin by the way."
"Right! Wouldn't want them to miss this!" I said as my stomach just knotted up.
We ended up walking over to a table. Campus security was nearby and preventing anyone from approaching us but they were still probably within hearing range if they tried to listen. Samuel, was this not enough? I already just wanted to collapse from all this. Hearing my parents were lurking around the party somewhere is also just another moment of personal dread.
"So, Tessa Brooks and Katherine Turner. How you gonna handle last names?" Chloe asked, her notepad in hand.
I looked at Kat and we held hands. "We hadn't really thought about it," I said.
"That's boring," she said. "I like it when the magic makes ya come up with stories."
"Magic?" Kat asked.
My mind was in a rush. She knew! Another loser. No wait, she seemed too calm. Bianca had a sense of fear to her but I didn't feel it hear.
"I heard ya had the yearbook. Don't recognize me? Why even take it if you don't read it? But in case you still aren't sure," she stood up and offered her hand. "I'm Chloe Martin, Winner #7. Investigator, reporter and all around sleuth at your service."
"Is this cuz I set his desk on fire?" I asked. Come on! He said he wouldn't lie. How much harsher can the punishment get!
"You set his desk on fire! Omg! That is, wow, you trying to speed run losing this game? I'm surprised your neck a party favor today to be honest," she said. "But nah. I investigate, duh. I figured out what was going on today on my own. Samuel didn't ask me to call your parents. I did it on my own."
"Why?" Kat asked. "You want to see us, suffer?"
"Nah, nothing like that," she said. "Just a better story! Principal supports college lesbians idea for a romantic proposal, parental support too, plenty of pictures. How sweet can this school be?"
"I should break your nose!" I said trying to grit my teeth.
She just smiled, almost like a demon. "You think he has punished you? Strike me and just see how much worse it gets. I mean, seriously. Go for it. I don't mind. 1 day in the hospital, and the fallout. 2 stories for one punch. Sounds like a deal to me."
I just seethed at her.
"Awe, all bark? No worries, but that isn't my only reason for doing this, well an because I saw about you trying to get him in legal trouble. Bad move girl. My tip to you as a former winner, no ****, no legal issues," she said.
"So what," I said, "is your other reason!"
"Isn't it obvious?" she said taking her camera out. "If you fail the game, your going to become a happy lesbian couple. You may hate it now, but ten years from now. You'll be thanking me for getting your family here and getting so many good pictures."
"You're a psycho!" I said.
"Oh," she said getting up. "Your song is coming on! I know you didn't actually pick a song yet but go pretend. I already told the band to expect you! Make it look good okay!"
"Wait wha-" I heard the song begin playing.
I wanna, wanna, wanna get, get, get what I want, don't stop
What dumb song is this? Are the lyrics meant to be lyric or something. Kat grabbed my hand and I felt myself being pulled by her.
We ran up on the stage with the band, again all attempts to sabotage myself proved worthless.
"I'll never, ever let you leave me. I'll try to stop time forever. Never wanna hear you say goodbye," Kat song with the lead singer. Me dancing around and watching her. The crowd was going wild too.
"I feel so untouched and I want you so much. That I just can't resist you. It's not enough to say that I miss you," I said dancing and singing along.
"Yeah! Veronicas! I love this song! Kiss!" some dude shouted. Wait was it the same dude that is always shouting at us?
Either way Kat took the cue and we kissed in front of everyone. The entire party just roared in response.
Author's note
I know I teed up the idea of parents having an awkward conversation but I am not too interested in exploring that personally. But as mentioned before. I fully embrace anyone that wants to branch off at any point :D
Continue the party or enough for now?
