A long time had passed since Lauren's humiliating youth. She was older now, and maybe not more mature, but at least she was far from her embarrassing past. She viewed herself as a pristine adult woman- more a debutante than ever. Her embarrassing history was so long in the past, it hardly affected her at all anymore. Unfortunately, the past has a way of coming back to bite you.

At 40, Lauren's youthful looks were actually to her benefit. She looked far below her age. Her almost manic skin care routines prevented almost all wrinkles. Her cute features made people think she was younger than her true age. Sometimes far younger. She greatly appreciated this reality, flirting with men far younger than her, not facing the same loss in status as many of her peers.
