"Douglas, do be a dear and help with the dishes," Elizabeth said. Douglas paused, almost internally debating what to do, and then reluctantly came to help put the dishes in the sink, and then washing them while Elizabeth dried. She allowed them to work in silence for a few minutes.

"We've ended up a long way from where we started," Elizabeth noted.

"Yeah," Douglas agreed. "Not sure I ever predicted it this way to be honest." What was he to her now? Son-in-law? Stepson-in-law? Punk-in-law.

"Frankly, dear, you were a bit ... hm, how should I put this? I don't know that Luther was the most logical decision making I've ever seen," Elizabeth said. Douglas swallowed hard, staring at her. "I understand why you did it. You wanted to help Erin. I think she would have gone down that path without her primary male mentor bouncing on Luther's dick. But you let yourself get manipulated by Katie ... pretty face like mine, but big brains like yours. She got you to help Alonzo out right quick by pushing you down a primrose path.
