A Unique Proposal

If it wasn't international a pair of Generals would have been considered overkill for a simple company on company training action. As it was the majority of the planning had been taken care of by Jennifer and her counterpart on the ESF's side. Carmelita fondled the ring again, hiding it away in her pocket.

It was almost a shame, she missed her company command days. This would have been a fun change of pace from her usual work. Jennifer would be able to lead it just as well though and if it killed her some day Carmelita would make sure her subordinate got the rank she was due. This might even be a good first step.

To her surprise Harriet was already waiting in the meeting room… and nobody else. Her heart was pounding. Her mouth was dry but she still **** herself to move forward. There wouldn't be a better time than before their various staff officers trickled their way in.

Harriet's face turned stern for just a moment before she walked towards Carmelita. Her hand in her pocket too. Neither realizing what was about to happen and neither able to stop themselves when it was in motion. At the same time they both took a knee, took out a ring, and in unison asked the biggest question of their lives.

"Will you marry me?"

They both found themselves staring at one another for a moment. The absurdity of what had just occurred catching up with them.

"I'll take that as a yes." Harriet said, beaming as they both rose and engaged in a hug. Unaware of the high fives and cheers on the other side of the wall. The noise almost getting high enough to reach them as they kissed and exchanged the rings. They'd both gotten the size perfect.

"It's beautiful, like you." Carmelita realized how corny that was but she didn't care.

"It doesn't even compare to yours." Harriet replied. "You have no idea how glad I am that you said yes."

"You? I thought my heart was going to stop!"

They kissed quickly before it could turn into a contest of nerves. That was of course when things went wrong.

"I can't wait for you to come with me to-

"The Colonies."

"The Federation."

The cheering beyond the wall abruptly stopped.

"Uh, ladies… I think we may have forgotten something important."
