Chapter 392

Where they left off.
I followed Diana inside her house and noticed that our outfits… were kinda similar. She was wearing blue jeans, too, and a black long sleeve shirt with golden trimming along its v-neck. The shirt seemed loose, but Diana’s large breasts pushed against it regardless. Not that it matters much, but I found it amusing.
We walked into the compact and cozy living room. There were two couches and an old recliner sofa facing the TV on the wall. There was a fireplace with pictures and vases on top of its frame, but it didn’t seem like it had seen much use recently.
Diana looked around as if searching for something, or more like examining her own living room. She pushed both sofas to be perfectly aligned in 90° and repositioned the coffee table because it wasn’t perfectly centered with the rug under it. To me, everything looked tidy and clean, though.
Red was laying on the old recliner sofa, chewing on jerky. From the looks of it and given the good state of the rest of the furniture…
“Did you have breakfast?” Diana asked me.
“Ah. Yes, I did.” I told her with a smile, then looked at Red again. “Is that his spot?”
Diana chuckled. “Yes, the only sofa he’s allowed to sit on. My dad began to train him and I’ve kept at it. Thankfully, he learns rather quickly.” She walked up and sat down next to me, her face showing a beautiful smile. “So you have a cat, then?”
“Yeah. Her name is Cake. She was an abandoned kitty my sister and her friends brought home. I didn’t want to keep her, but… Well, Cake kinda made the choice for us.”
“That’s a cute name. Who came up with it?”
I felt my cheeks began to heat up. “I did. We’re big sweet tooths at my house, so it seemed fitting.”
“Do you have a picture of her?”
“Yeah.” I showed her Cake on my phone. Diana smiled. “Do you like cats?”
“Yes. We had a couple of farm cats at the ranch to hunt rats.” The picture I showed her just happened to be one that also had Isabelle in it, so Diana also asked about her. “Is this your sister?”
“Yeah. Isabelle.”
“You look… quite alike. Twins?” I nodded. “Wow. What's that like?”
“Annoying most of the time,” I joked.
“That’s just siblings in general,” she joked back.
“Are you an only child?” I asked her.
“No, I have an older brother. He got an opportunity to study overseas when he was 18 and ended up making his life there. He comes back once in a while to visit with his wife and daughter.” Diana sighed heavily.
“...Strained relationship?” I asked.
Diana smiled wryly. “Gave myself away, huh? Yeah, a bit. I was here taking care of dad while he was ill, but my brother didn’t come to see him. He… also tried to fight me over some parts of the inheritance when he came to the funeral. Made everything way more stressful.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. Is that resolved or…?”
“Yeah, it is, thankfully. His wife beat some sense into him,” Diana said with a satisfied smile. “Now I can finally start focusing on my work again. And also… my love life, hopefully. Maybe.”
My heart skipped a beat, and I could swear I felt Diana’s doing the same. We’d been talking so freely and easily, like we’d effortlessly taken it from where we left off on Friday, but now an awkward silence formed between us. It was awkward because we both knew what else we wanted to continue from where we left off. It didn’t last long, though. Diana didn’t LET it last long.
“So… We were cut short on Friday and left some… unfinished business. I said I’d make it up to you, remember?” she asked me. “I mean to keep that promise. So… What would you like to do now?”
I wasn’t going to beat around the bush, but I also didn’t feel like jumping into the deep end of the pool immediately. “To start, I’d like to kiss you again, if you don’t find that disagreeable.”
“Hmm… So you DO read minds.” Whether she meant that as a joke or was serious about it, she didn’t give me time to ask. Diana leaned in and captured my lips
She put her hand on my shoulder at the same time I placed mine on her waist. A pleasant tingle ran through my body, and Diana didn’t waste time moving even closer and prodding my lips with the tip of her tongue. We both let out a soft moan into the other’s mouth… and then a dog whined.
Startled, we turned to look. Red was in front of us, looking upset as he whined and stomped his front paws on the floor.
I couldn’t help but smirk. “I… think I made him jealous.”
To test it, Diana leaned in again and kissed my cheek. Red whined again and stuck his snout between us.
“You are such a baby…!” Diana said, groaning. “That’s it. You’re going outside.”
“Aww, now I feel bad…” I told her.
“Don’t. He’s used to being outside,” Diana told me, standing up and snapping her fingers. “Outside, now.” She gestured towards the hallway leading to the back of the house. Red began to walk, if reluctantly, and Diana walked behind him. They both disappeared and soon enough I heard a door opening and closing.
Diana returned and sat down next to me again. “Sorry about that…”
“I think it’s cute. I told you I love dogs.”
Diana smiled in relief. She moved a lock of her hair behind her ear, a simple move that I found both surprisingly cute and sexy. “So… Where were we?”
I put an arm behind her neck and pulled her into another kiss. Diana answered by pushing me down on the couch and falling on top of me.
In seconds, the room felt several degrees hotter.
