"Oh my goodness, Emily? For real?" Elizabeth said, both over the moon and overwhelmed.

"Mmmhm," Emily said, holding hands with Renata. The Brazilian transsexual had a Cheshire-cat smile. "She'll be born in December. You'll come of course."

"Of course!" Elizabeth said, hugging her oldest tightly. Life hadn't gone exactly according to plan, she thought. She never expected to be living in a polyamorous life with two transsexuals and a Black man. Nor did she expect her ex-husband to have transitioned into a woman, with a separate life. But in her bucket list, being a grandmother was top among the list.

Given that Emily didn't visit often from Miami, Aaron and Katie were also at the house. Aaron was playing with his young stepsiblings, the offspring of Jordan, Monique and Mira. Aaron had revealed at dinner the previous night that he was dating a woman, the daughter of Elizabeth's former housekeeper. Frankly, it had surprised Elizabeth to learn Aaron was dating a woman. She was less surprised when he told her privately afterwards that Valentina was pregnant by a Black baby daddy.

Meanwhile, Katie appeared to be enjoying her college experience with her boyfriend Peter. But there was something different about their dynamic. Katie appeared to be more in control, and Peter was acting more submissively towards her. But all in all, they were what they always were: the Castle family.
