Ambush Spot

Mia didn’t wait around for Roxanne to follow. The more time she had, the better. She plunged into the maze-like hallways of the mansion’s upper floor with reckless abandon, searching for something she could use to give Roxanne a taste of her own medicine.

Soon, she found herself lost as she took right and left turns, peering into ambiguous rooms and shadowy corners. Some doors were locked tight, making her wonder what Roxanne was trying to hide.

Somewhere, she heard Roxanne’s heavy boots moving around, but they were far enough away to give Mia the time she needed to regain her composure. She came across a room that looked like it could offer some promise.

It looked like nothing more than a guest bedroom, with a thin layer of dust revealing it hadn’t been used in some time. With the sun hanging low in the sky outside, Mia resisted switching the light on and slipped through the door left ajar.

A double bed, desk, mirror, chest of drawers, and a rug needed a good beating. Yes, this was a standard guest bedroom. But what caught Mia’s eye was the heavy armoire in the corner, partially obscured by some heavy drapes. It could make an excellent ambush spot for Roxy when she eventually found her.

She realized she didn’t have any other options unless she wanted to stumble into another one of Roxy’s traps. Mia secreted herself behind the armoire, using the drapes as coverage.

If she moved quickly enough, all the perception in the world from Roxanne’s stupid glasses wouldn’t be able to save her.
