“I guess there could be,” Alice says. “If I was sure that I wasn’t messing anything up.”

Colby gives her a flat look. Alice doesn’t squirm, but the moment becomes awkward.

“If someone showed me how sure they were,” she prompts.

The look becomes a glare. Colby wipes her tears away and balls up her fists at her sides, crossing the room to climb into Alice’s lap. Her warm, soft body is a heavenly weight. Alice’s hands are magically on Colby’s hips.
