Call Violet

I sighed, and put my head in my hands. Guess all my horny **** fantasies would have to stay as fantasies. And maybe it was better that way.

Deep in my thoughts, I returned to my room and shut the door. Thankfully our apartment was mostly soundproof, so I could call Violet in peace without having Melody eavesdrop.

The grad student picked up on the second ring. "Do you have a report for me?" she asked in lieu of any greeting.

I shrugged it off, being used to this treatment. "Yeah, and it absolutely does not work."

"Explain," she replied testily, taking my response as a challenge.

"Gave it to someone, a small dose like you suggested. No response, basically ignored me, and in fact left the room I was in."

"Impossible."

"Well I guess it's possible now."

I lied down on my bed, sensing things were about to get heated. Sure enough, Violet testily replied, "That cannot be possible. I've tried the dose on eleven people and they all were instantly infatuated."

"Maybe it doesn't work on girls then?"

"Also unlikely, my subjects were seven men and four women." I was honestly not sure if I just got confirmation that Violet swung both ways, or if gender is meaningless to her, and everyone is just a test subject.

"Those poor suckers."

"Oh they were adequately compensated." That did little to settle my fears. "But you tried it on a girl, I assume?"

"Shocking, I know but yes."

Here, Violet paused for a second. "Were they, obese by any chance?"

"Um." I said. "No, she's like 100 pounds soaking wet."

"Hmm," this really seemed to stump Violet.

"No, I don't think this is possible. You must be missing something."

I rolled over onto my stomach. "If this stuff is as potent as you claim, don't you think it would be hard to miss?"

"Perhaps you can't recognize the symptoms of someone being in love with you?"

The image of Lily cheating on my flashed in my mind. "Okay ouch, but I don't think there's a world that running away from me means they're in love with me."

Violet was silent for a long time, almost a full minute. I swung back up and sat on the edge of my bed. "There is... one more possibility."

"Oh?"

"Test subject two was a man I had been seeing for a while now, and things were fairly serious. When I gave him the Erodius, he showed increased affection, but much less than the others." I feared for anyone who had the misfortune of dating Violet.

"therefore, we can hypothesize that Erodius can only increase the affection one feels to a certain maximum."

"Okay, and?" I asked, not seeing where she was going.

Violet sighed. "Thus, the most likely scenario is that whoever you gave the Erodius to was simply already in love with you."
