Recon and Tactics

Michael's (The MC) POV

After giving Sergeant Foreman the location of the current building where Carlos gang was hiding, courtesy of the recently recruited Laurel, it didn't take long for the good Sergeant to position one of their solar-powered drone eyes on the sky above the red building. Then she started providing them with intel.

"I only see one armed gang member at the entrance," Foreman said over the radio. "And he only has a handgun that I can see, over."

Kira and Laurel exchanged a glance, frowning.

"That's strange," Kira said into the military-grade radio frequency as she scratched her chin. "Carlos always prefers to have at least 4 of his thugs on watch duty at the entrance if he can at all help it."

"Could they be looking for us?" Laurel asked.

Kira shook her head. "Carlos is not attached enough to us to spare his men for a rescue party on us. No, they are either scavenging or something has gone wrong, over."

"Either way, they are near your location and undermanned at the moment, over," The Sergeant from Team 3 said. "So if you want to rescue Laurel's sister, now its probably a good time to catch them off guard and extract her."

You felt a feeling of grim determination but nodded, realizing that even if this meant going to war with a gang, you gave the woman you claimed your word that you were going to do your best to ensure her sister's rescue.

And now, more than ever, you felt that your word had to be your bond.

With that, you took the radio and spoke directly into it. "Sergeant, this is your commanding officer speaking. Is the path to the building 3 blocks away clear of zombies?"

"There were none around your block last I checked, sir," She replied. "Nor on the streets leading to the building. The hordes appear to be congregating further north, towards downtown. But for now at least, your path is clear."

You thought about that for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. Are you ready for your part, Sergeant?"

"What are your orders, sir?" She said in a serious tone, devotion dripping from her voice.

"We are heading there right now to rescue Sofia," You declared. "I need you to be our scout in the sky and let us know of any relevant developments before and after the fighting starts. Watch out for armed gang members, especially snipers, and, of course, let us know if you spot any hordes of zombies."

"Sir, yes, sir!" Foreman replied, and you imagined her saluting right then and there, back at the apartment. "Anything else, sir?"

"Yes, try not to get too close with the drone," You added. "We don't want to lose the element of surprise. Focus on zooming in from a distance, or at least from a high enough altitude to minimize the odds of detection.

"Of course, sir," She said. "As you command, sir."

You nodded to yourself. "Good luck. Michael out."

And with that, you turned back to your team, who shared more than a few fierce smirks of anticipation. That, in turn, made you smirk. Then, you turned to your second-in-command.

"Lieutenant Mills, advise a plan of attack," You told her.

The hot lieutenant stood at attention immediately and opened her mouth before too long.

"Sir, since these gangsters do not know that Laurel and Kira are on our side, we should take advantage of that by having them enter on the pickup truck I refueled and with the supplies we put in the back so the guard at the entrance is placed in a good mood and in a false sense of familiarity and security," She explained. "Garcia and I can lay down in the back, hiding among the supplies and waiting for the right moment to strike. And then, we either deal with the remaining criminals first or rescue Sofia. Whatever happens first."

You thought on her words hard for a long moment, but then decided it was a better plan than any other you could think of at the moment.

"Very well," You said, nodding in approval. "Amelia and I will stay around the corner of the street since you will have limited space and mobility in the back of the truck as it is. Once your ambush succeeds, Amelia and I will move in with our guns to reinforce you."

You paused, knowing that even if you trusted the veterans in your personal guard to handle themselves in a firefight, there was still risk involved. So, you looked at them with gratitude.

"Thank you," You said simply, and, since it felt right, you saluted.

They answered the gesture back with a salute of their own and a wide grin of approval.

So, you took a deep breath and nodded.

"Let's go. We have a rescue mission ahead."
