How to forgive

"Joseph, can we talk" Heather asked me. She looked really nervous and honestly kinda cute.

"Sure" I said before we went into a more private space.

"What is it?" I asked her. She couldn't meet my eyes.

"What do I have to do?" she asked. I was confused for a second before realizing what she was talking about.

"I know I did a lot of bad things, but I really am trying to change" she said as she took my hands and looked me in the eye.

"I know you are, but it's going to take time" I told her.

"What can I do? I have money-" she started before I cut her off.

"I don't want your money. Forgiveness isn't something you can force someone to do. You have to show that you deserve it, and let them decide if they want to forgive you" I told her with a stern look. She looked down, seemingly taking my words in. I smiled and cupped her cheek, making her shutter. Looks like I found another sweet spot.

"I may not be ready to forgive, but I am ready to move on from the past" I told her. I could tell she was trying not to kiss me, making me smile even more.

"Friends" I said as I let go of her cheek and held out my hand. A massive smile krept onto her face.
