What happens next?

"Sirene, what are the plans now that the Demon Lord is gone?" Allisa asked.

"Organising a full retreat back to the border" Sirene spoke dejectedly.

"What? We should be on the offence, capitalising on our victory to strike at the Firstborns" Allisa, questioned confused. The demon lord is dead, his generals known as the Firstborns, called as such for being the first born monsters of their kind should be strikes down while they had the momentum.

"Allisa" Sirene spoke, her voice full of unspoken grief " You didn't notice see them, the remains of all those who gave their lives so that we could confront the Demon king but..." Sirene took a moment for a deep breathe "So many of our forces got wiped out during the **** on the Demon Lord's fortress, that any further advance is pure suicide"

"Our remaining forces are either buying us time from the incoming monster reinforcements on their way to kill us or they're helping alongside everyone else in packing everything up so that we can retreat back to the border as quickly as possible otherwise we'll suffer greater casualties" Sirene solemnly spoke.

"I... I see" Allisa spoke softly, stunned at the news. A part of her naively believed it would be a glorious victory, in which they end the threats of all monster kind forever. The reality of the situation to hear was a bit jarring to her.

'Hah!...' a small voice in the back of her head laughed.
