What happens in the Monster's Den?
Deeper and Deeper into the Dark
The Spider Queen's lair was a desolate place. A winding maze of tunnels and webs that stretched far into the dark. Most of the tunnels were submerged in darkness, only traversable by the light of your torches. Everywhere there were patches of webs that stuck to your feet and got party members caught. The torches were just as vital for freeing you from those hidden traps.
You soon understood what Sir Knowles had meant when he said that your presence would be quickly discovered. On the way in, you'd fought several battles against the spiderlings. Sir Knowles had slain dozens himself, however you managed to kill a few too. Each time a monster's corpse fell you were flooded with a twisted satisfaction. Victory and killing.
Now, the spiderlings staid out of reach. In the darkness you could hear them skittering. At the far side of corridors you'd see the edges of your light reflecting in their eyes. They were watching you. Observing you.
No, she was watching you.
It must have been many hours into the descent that you discovered the first piece of proof that you'd reached the core-chambers of the Arachnae Queen's lair. For the first time, you saw light. Strange, blue lanterns illuminated a pathway at the end of a hall. Your brow furrowed. Whatever that room or path held, it must must have been something important. You rushed slightly ahead of the group so you could get the first look. Just what were you going to find?
