He sighed and put down his phone. Beth continued to stare at her hand, mumbling under her breath. He approached her cautiously, not wanting to do any more damage.

"Beth?"

She immediately fell silent, but the look of bewildered concern never left her face. She squinted like she was thinking hard and moved her lips silently. Not knowing what else to do, Joseph sat with her and stroked her hair while she babbled.

After a few minutes, a knock came at the door and Joseph stood to answer it. Opening the door, he was greeted with a sight that left him speechless.

Kate was wearing a dark green dress with a plunging neckline. Her cleavage threatened to spill out of her top even as the long slit along the side exposed her leg all the way up to her hip. She had clearly put a lot of effort into her appearance - her makeup, hair, and even her nails were immaculate. As his eyes roamed over her body and drank it in, a modest blush crept across her cheeks and she broke eye contact.

"...do you like it?" she asked timidly. "I don't have much experience trying to be sexy, especially not for men. I brought more outfits in case this isn't to your liking." She was carrying a dry cleaners' bag.

"I... wow, Kate, you look like a supermodel!"

Her blush deepened and she grinned uncharacteristically. "Ooh, that- wow. That felt good. Could you- no, Beth first." She stepped inside and spotted Beth on the couch. She approached and knelt beside her. "Tell me what happened."

As he caught her up, she poked and prodded at Beth. Beth remained mostly unresponsive. When he finished the story, she stood. He tried not to stare at her chest bouncing wildly with the motion.

"We're obviously in uncharted territory here," she said. "I think you may have overwhelmed the poor girl. I mean, you put a massive block in her memory and then just crudely destroyed it an hour later. I've got a theory, though, and if I'm right it may be the best way to get her out of this."

Joseph nodded anxiously. "Anything! What do we-"

He was interrupted by the doorbell. Kate smiled. "Is that Kat? Perfect! We'll want to test my theory on her before we try it with Beth."
