Chapter 15 by Levantin Levantin

What's next?

a little game 3

I heard girls' voices through the wall. Apparently some of them had gone to the girls' room next to the boys' room. My heart was somewhere in my stomach area. I was sweating all over by now, and it wasn't from the 5 squats. My feet slipped on the tiles and I hit the floor lengthwise. My cell phone was knocked out of my hand and slid away from me. The voices in the corridor got louder, and now male voices were joining in. "Boys, you can use the other bathroom, you don't have to queue here," someone shouted. I cursed, scrambled to my feet and rushed into the cubicle with my clothes. I heard the door hinging again and I threw the door shut behind me and locked the bolt.

Feet were trampling on the floor, voices were chattering, water was splashing in glasses. My heart raced and I crouched down on the toilet. What had I let myself in for again? I prayed that they would just disappear quickly. The beeping in my ears got louder again and almost drowned out the boys' conversations. "Don't dawdle here, come on, hurry up a bit. We want to get something done today," Mr. Kaiser's voice rang through the boys' bathroom. The boys now seemed to pick up the pace and more and more of them left the bathroom. I slowly began to relax. That just went well, you idiot, my inner voice scolded me. I can't imagine what would have happened if you hadn't been caught in the bathroom. You would have been the laughing stock of the school, or worse. You could have been expelled from school. I tried to silence my inner voice, but that was easier said than done.

"Daniel, come back, you've lost a paintbrush," I heard Mr. Kaiser shout into the corridor. He cursed under his breath and entered the boys' bathroom. I heard his footsteps on the tiles. They clattered softly. Apparently he had now picked up the brush himself. Footsteps again. "Who leaves their cell phone here? If you don't carry everything after them." My blood froze in my veins. Please don't, please ...

I heard Mr. Kaiser's shoes hit the tiles, the door hinges squeaked one last time. Footsteps in the corridor.

Silence

I slowly opened my eyes, which I had squeezed shut due to the tension. Please don't, it can't be that Mr. Kaiser has taken my cell phone. I listened to see if there was really no one else in the boys' bathroom.

Apparently I was alone again. I started to get dressed. As soon as I had put everything on, I opened the door to my cubicle and looked through the anteroom. My cell phone was no longer where it had slithered to when I lost my balance and it bounced out of my hand. I ruffled my hair. Please at least let it be so the video ended and the screen locked. I swallowed.

Now was not the time to think long and hard. If the phone wasn't locked when Mr. Kaiser plugged it in, it would still keep filming. If he asked the class who it belonged to, they would notice the video. They would stop it and look, find the nude photos and see who it belonged to. I stormed out of the restroom towards the art room. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, this simply can't be true. My inner voice spoke up and began to explain to me that I had gotten myself into this mess and if I had listened to it right away, I wouldn't be sitting in this pile of shit right now. Not helpful, not helpful at all, I thought and knocked on the door of the art room. Mr. Kaiser opened it and looked at me in surprise.

"How can I help you, John?"

I swallowed and tried not to make my voice sound quite as pathetic as I felt.

"Could it be that you found a cell phone in the boys' bathroom? I must have lost my cell phone there," I said. My voice sounded surprisingly calm and normal, very different from how I felt. Sweat ran down my back and tickled me. I still had goose bumps and my pulse was racing.

"Yes, I did," he said and reached into his pocket, from which he pulled out my cell phone. Loud music blared from the art room behind him, and he turned his head in annoyance. "Sevde, I said you could listen to quiet music. That means you're supposed to use headphones and not disturb us here with the noise," Mr. Kaiser called over his shoulder into the room.

I took the opportunity to grab my cell phone from his hand.

"Thank you, I have to get back to class now," I said, turning on my heel and running down the corridor. Only when I reached the stairwell did I stop and look at my display. It was still recording.

My heart sank. So no one had checked my cell phone. I lowered myself onto the stairs and took a closer look at my phone. Fortunately, nothing had happened to the iPhone through the case and the screen was still intact. I finished the video and briefly scripted it. It had recorded everything, my questionable performance and that stupid smile into the camera. Now I wished I hadn't done that. It made me look stupid. The knee bends, how I ran off, came back, took the cell phone and it flew out of my hand. You could even see Mr. Kaiser's face when he picked it up and put it in his pocket.

I had regained my composure to some extent. After a moment's thought, I sent the video as it was to Loona. I wanted her to see what she had made me do. I glanced at the clock. It was already 16 minutes after the start of class. I stood up and made my way back to my class.
