Ah yes, drama, the death of any Among Us match
It's impossible, implausible, I'm an imposter imposter
âWell⌠shit.â
When Kim entered the Dining Room and saw Carlyâs unconscious body knocked out from orgasms lying next to a big glob of what must have been the slimy remains of Marley, there werenât any other thoughts that could come to mind for her.
Sheâd been hoping to catch up to the cosplayer, but when sheâd heard Marleyâs screams from down the hall, sheâd feared the worst. And lo and behold, the two girls had been eliminated.
Shit.
Theyâre totally going to suspect me! Talk about bad luck! Kim reluctantly pressed the report button, knowing it was time to face the music.
In a flash, she was teleported to the Meeting Room with the other survivors. She noticed that everyone else was alive.
âCarly? Carly got killed?!â Dani exclaimed, looking around the room. âWhat the fuck?! I just saw her!â
âY-yeah,â Kim nodded. âI found her-â
âIt was you, wasnât it!?â Dani declared. She liked Kim, but she wasnât about to let her personal feelings get in the way of winning a challenge. âYou chased after her, caught her, and eliminated her!â
âYou donât know that!â Mary argued. âThatâs speculation! Kim was only gone for a few minutes at most while we were arguing!â
Actually, it had taken Kim more than ten minutes to track down Carly. More than long enough. When Mary got into an argument, it was really easy for time to pass her by. Kim didnât exactly feel comfortable offering up that little detail, though, given the circumstances.
âBut itâs a reasonable assumption,â Dakota pointed out. âOut of everyone here, Carly probably had one of the biggest advantages out of everyone, thanks to Marley. She could serve as a decoy, another set of eyes to call out who she saw, there are all sorts of ways to use her, I would have eliminated her as fast as possible myself.â
Everyone stared at her suspiciously.
ââŚI didnât, though,â Dakota clarified. âI was just saying that someone COULD. Dawn can attest, I never left her side for a second.â
âThatâs right,â Dawn nodded. âDakota and I were together the entire round.â
âIâm surprised that she didnât do anything like that,â Rose said. âShout out, I mean. You would think she would, right? But Kim, you didnât hear anything?â
âI did,â Kim protested. âMarley did shout! Right before I got to the Dining Hall.â
âDid she say anything useful?â Dakota asked, leaning forward. âA name, perhaps? Identifying the attacker?â
Kim sank back in her seat slightly and shook her head. ââŚNo. She just cried out. I guess when Carly got eliminated, Sylvia did something to make Marley turn into slime before she could out the saboteur. For fairness, maybe? âŚThatâs how I found her, anyway. A big puddle of slime.â
A few sighs and groans went around the table. Dakota, on the other hand, looked triumphant.
âThen itâs you,â she crowed. âYouâre the saboteur! You didnât hear Marley name her attacker, because her attacker was you.â
âThat would be a logical conclusion, yes,â Dawn agreed. âBut itâs speculative. We donât have all the facts left. And thereâs still the fact that Kim and I were alone together when Gina was eliminated. If she was one of the saboteurs, rather than go check up on Ginaâs condition with me, wouldnât it have been a better decision to eliminate me, as well? Then there would be two eliminations, and no one is the wiser to either of them.â
âThat makes sense,â Rose nodded.
âI-I agree,â Morgana mumbled.
Dakota frowned. That explanation DID make sense.
âUnless itâs the two of you, together,â Dani accused.
âI was with Dakota the entire time,â Dawn pointed out. âI have an alibi. But youâre correct. If we go off the assumption that Kim is the saboteur, and sheâs the one who eliminated Carly, then I would be a likely choice as the other saboteur.â
âDonât forget, it was your buddy that got eliminated, too,â Rose pointed out. She smiled, like she had the whole thing all figured out. âIâve got it. Itâs Mary and Dawn! The genius, and the detective! Theyâre in it together, and theyâre playing the rest of you!â
âWhat?!â Dani exclaimed, her face flushing with rage.
âUh⌠what?â Morgana looked at Rose, confused. And she wasnât the only one.
âWhat?! But⌠why me!?â Mary wailed. âI didnât get anybody!â
âBecause your buddy was eliminated first!â Rose explained. âThink about it! It makes perfect sense. Mary eliminates her buddy first. Then Dawnâs buddy next. That way, they both secure their positions so they wonât lose the challenge!â
A hush fell over the Meeting Room as everyone considered that idea.
Kim sighed and shook her head. Dawn kneaded her temples in frustration.
âRose, just⌠no. That makes no sense.â
Rose frowned. âWhy not? I think it makes perfect sense!â
âWell, for starters, Dawn and I both have alibis!â Mary pointed out. âI was arguing with Dani right up until we got teleported here, and Dakota says Dawn never left her side!â
âThatâs right,â Dawn nodded. âThe four of us are absolutely innocent for this. One of us could still be the saboteur, yes, but they werenât the one who eliminated Carly.â
âNot to mention, the way youâre talking about things doesnât work,â Dakota said, shaking her head. âRemember what Sylvia said at the beginning. The way that elimination is going to be handled is different. We donât know how itâs going to be different, but it seems unlikely that the saboteurs would eliminate their buddies first. Thereâs no benefit to it. If the saboteurs win, then they both get first. Thatâs basically immunity right there, right? And if the workers win, that means that saboteurs both get last place. Even if their buddies are eliminated, itâs a safe assumption that the saboteurs, at least, will not be giving out any roses.â
âI think I get it,â Morgana nodded. âSo what youâre saying is that thereâs not really any benefit for eliminating your buddy first anyway!â
Then she realized sheâd jumped onto Dakotaâs conversation, and felt the womanâs golden eyes burn into her. She froze and went pale.
âNot to mention,â Dakota purred, âone of us here doesnât have a buddy at all.â
Morgana gulped. âI-IâŚâ
âItâs fine, Morgana, sheâs just messing with you,â Dawn assured her. âRight now, Kim is the only suspect, because sheâs the only one who doesnât have an alibi.â Dawn sighed. âI donât think Kim is the saboteur since she didnât eliminate me when she had the chance, but if sheâs the only one without an alibi, thenâŚâ
Then she noticed Morgana and Rose both start to look uncomfortable.
ââŚWhatâs the matter?â Dani asked, scowling.
âW-wellâŚâ Morgana looked down at her lap.
âItâs not that I donât have an alibiâŚâ Rose murmured, unable to meet Daniâs gaze.
Mary sighed.
ââŚOkay, tell usâŚâ She urged the two of them.
âI-Iâm sorry!â Morgana wailed. âRight before the round ended⌠I needed to use the Bathroom!â
âShe said she couldnât go with someone else watching,â Rose sighed. âSo I stood outside the door while she went.â
âDid she come out?â Dawn asked, frowning.
Rose shook her head. âI was still standing outside the door when I was brought to the Meeting Room. And get this. Thereâs a vent in that room, too.â
The table took a moment to process that information.
Dakota rolled her eyes. âSo in other words, Morgana doesnât have an alibi either.â
âI went to the Bathroom!â Morgana wailed. âIt takes me a while when Iâm nervous!â
âRose doesnât have an alibi either, though,â Mary pointed out. âJust like she canât say for certain whether or not Morgana was actually in the Bathroom the whole time, she canât prove she didnât leave the door to go kill Carly, either. The Bathroom isnât too far away from the Dining Hall. You could have popped over and killed her.â
âBut I could have just killed Morgana then!â Rose protested. âWhy go out of my way to look for somebody, when everyone was in groups together? And Morgana could have left the bathroom at any time and immediately outed me? It doesnât make sense.â
Rose had the right idea. Kim could definitely understand that logic.
âIf you killed Morgana, we would all know it was you,â Dani said. âEven I get that much.â
âOn the other hand, you have a track record of not thinking things through,â Dawn pointed out.
Rose turned crimson. âYeah?! Well⌠what about you!?â
ââŚWhat about me?â Dawn asked, raising her eyebrow. âI think we established to a degree of certainty that I was with Dakota the whole time.â
âRight, but you could be working with someone,â Rose said. âI mean, come on, itâs suspicious, right? If Iâm the saboteur, Iâd be going after Dawn first! Because sheâs, like, so totally smart! Sheâs probably got the layout of this whole place memorized already, and she can remember everything weâve all said! Sheâs by far the biggest threat here! So the fact that the saboteur hasnât killed her already means that sheâs definitely got to be it!â
That really got the table talking.
âItâs not me! I donât know why I havenât gotten eliminated yet; probably because I was with Dakota!â Dawn protested.
âBut you could have known that, which is why you partnered up with me,â Dakota pointed out. âIâm still suspicious of your actions in the last round, with Gina and Kim.â
âYouâre still on that?! It might be Kim, but itâs not me!â
âI donât think itâs Dawn, either,â Morgana said, shaking her head. âSheâs really nice! She wouldnât do something like this!â
Rose rolled her eyes at Morganaâs naĂŻvete. âYou say that because youâve never competed in a challenge against her. Sheâs ruthless. Donât think Iâve forgotten the way you stole all of Hollyâs cards in the challenge before last.â
âYouâre still on that?!â Dawn sputtered. âBut I gave you a rose in that challenge!â
Rose baulked. âY-yeah, and⌠thanks for that,â she mumbled. ââŚBut still! That was then, this is now. And I still think youâre the saboteur.â
Dawn bit her lip.
No one at the table had thought of things from Roseâs perspective before now, but now that the blonde had pointed it out, Dawn really was a pretty big threat to the saboteur.
Kim noticed the contemplative expression on Maryâs face.
âWhatâs up, Mary?â Kim asked.
âNothing,â Mary said, shaking her head. âItâs just⌠weâre doing all this thinking, and we havenât even verified if the two saboteurs are working together. Can they even communicate with one another?â
âTheyâve gotta be able to,â Kim said. âOtherwise this game wouldnât be very competitive. It would look suspicious if two people were always off in the corner whispering, right? We should work from the assumption that the saboteurs have some sort of way to communicate nonverbally with each other. Maybe they have a tablet. For a group chat. I donât know, maybe Sylvia gave them a psychic transformation or something.â
âI mean, you would know, saboteur,â Dakota jabbed at her.
Kim rolled her eyes.
âAaargh!â Dani slammed her palm on the table. âThis is making my brain hurt! Listen, thereâs an easy way to get to the bottom of this! Everyone, take your clothes off!â
Everyone stared at her for a second.
âAbsolutely not!â Mary exclaimed, crossing her arms over her chest.
âWhere are you going with this, Dani?â Rose asked, staring warily at the tomboy. While she was a bit more open with her body than most people, she didnât want to strip for no reason.
Unlike Kim, who was already working on the buttons of her shirt.
âListen, itâs simple, either take your clothes off, or Iâm going to be suspicious of you,â Dani growled. âBecause frankly, I donât trust any of you! Youâre making all these big speeches about whoâs suspicious, who isnât, but you know what? Dawn and Dakota, you DONâT have an alibi. If youâre both the saboteurs? Then you could have killed Carly without worry! Same with you, Rose, Morgana, this whole bathroom mess could just be a trick of some kind!â
ââŚIf we were both the saboteur, though, wouldnât we just say we were together the whole time, instead of put unnecessary suspicion on us?â Rose pointed out weakly.
âThatâs true,â Mary agreed. âBut Dani raises a good point. Dakota and Dawn arenât necessarily innocent just because theyâre vouching for each other. They could both be the saboteur.â
Daniâs eye twitched. âI-I donât know, okay?! Maybe it was some kinda reverse-psychology mumbo-jumbo! All I know is that I hate games like this! I hate mysteries! So weâre going to prove whoâs innocent and whoâs not once and for all! Everybody take your clothes off, weâre doing a strip search! That way, if youâre holding the syringe, weâll find it. And that will be the end of that!â
âWe had that idea too,â Dakota agreed, standing up. âIf the syringe is on someoneâs person, then weâll find it with a strip search. Come on, everybody.â
âO-onlyâŚâ Morgana blurted out, turning red. She looked away. âCan I be⌠facing away, please?â
Dani narrowed her eyes suspiciously. âAnd why would you want that? What are you hiding?â
âN-nothing!â Morgana exclaimed. âI just, um⌠I wanted⌠everybody to look at my butt⌠if Iâm getting naked, you know.â
Rose and Kim burst out laughing. They couldnât help it, that was so adorable.
ââŚFine,â Dani relented, rolling her eyes. It wasnât like she was going to complain about the chance to ogle a cute gothâs thicc booty. âBut all the clothes off. I donât want anybody hiding anything in their bra.â
âDonât have to worry about that with Dawn,â Dakota murmured under her breath. The cat girl gave her a scandalized glare.
Mary didnât want to get naked either. But then, everyone here had pretty much seen everything already, hadnât they?
After a few seconds, the seven of them were stark naked.
ââŚIf I knew this was how the challenge would go, I wouldnât have gone to the trouble of taking a bath with you and the twins for my bounty,â Rose blurted out, flashing a coquettish smile at Dani, who rolled her eyes.
âSo what, NOBODY has the syringe, then?â She asked, crossing her arms and making her chest bounce. âUnbelievable.â
âIt makes sense,â Dawn said weakly. âI donât think Sylvia would have made the challenge that easy. She probably gave the saboteurs some way to hide the syringe, like a pocket dimension or something.â
âArenât you supposed to be the smart one here?â Kim suppressed a grin. âPocket dimensions?â
âWith all the stuff weâve seen, rationality seems to be in short supply,â Dawn sighed.
âThe impossible could not have happened, therefore the impossible must be possible in spite of appearances,â Mary pointed out, wearing a self-satisfied smile. âAnd when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.â
âCan you do anything other than throw book quotes at us?â Dakota sighed, rolling her eyes. âWhatever. At this point, it seems pretty clear that weâre not going to get anywhere like this. Letâs end the meeting here, and get back to our tasks.â
She was already putting her clothes back on.
âI think we should switch up the teams, though,â Dani said. âSpecifically, I donât want you and Dawn on the same team anymore. I think Rose is right, itâs suspicious that Dawn hasnât been eliminated yet even though sheâs the biggest threat.â
âItâs not me and Dawn,â Dakota protested. âItâs Kim and Dawn.â
âItâs not me at all!â Dawn wailed. âJust give me one more round, and I can really start figuring this all out.â
âHow about you come with us, then?â Mary volunteered. âRose was definitely right about one thing, youâre the biggest target here. It would be best if the three of us were together, that way weâll have someone to call out, like with Carly and Marley.â
ââŚJust make sure you scream loudly when the two of them get you,â Dakota scoffed. âIâm not going to cry if you want to offer herself up to the wolves. Remember, the rest of you, if Mary isnât alive by the next meeting, Dawn and Kim are the saboteurs.â
âThis works out good, because there was an odd number of us,â Rose nodded. âSo the four of us will just pair up, then?â
âI donât want to be paired with Dakota,â Dani said, frowning. âI still think sheâs suspicious. Rose, what about you and me pair up this time?â
âFine with me,â Rose shrugged.
âWait, but then I have to go with Dakota!â Morgana exclaimed. âI donât want to be in the same pair as her!â
âOh, grow up,â Dakota scowled, narrowing her eyes.
ââŚFine, fine, whatever,â Dani groaned. âYou and I can be on a team then. Rose, are you fine with teaming up with Dakota for this round?â
âSure thing!â Rose chirped. âWe can talk about movies!â
âYouâre supposed to be doing your tasks,â Dawn pointed out.
The meeting ended, and the teams split up and went their separate ways to do their tasks.
âThis is so great!â Mary was bubbling with excitement. âWith Dawn and her brains joining us, those saboteurs wonât know what hit âem!â
âWho do you think it is?â Kim asked curiously. She wanted to know where Maryâs head was at right now.
âMy money is on Rose and Dani,â Mary said. âThink about it. If the saboteurs win, then that means theyâll both have to give a rose to someone, right? And Sylvia really didnât like how everybody just picked their buddies last round. Wouldnât it make sense that sheâd make a pair of buddies the saboteurs, to guarantee they wouldnât be able to pick each other?â
âThat does make sense,â Dawn agreed. âBut that would mean that Dani would be onboard with eliminating Carly. And I donât really see that happening.â
âYou didnât see the fight they had,â Mary said. âBut also, think about it like this. If Carlyâs eliminated early, before you, then that means you get a rose and she doesnât if the saboteurs win, right?â
âBasically yes,â Dawn nodded. âAccording to Sylvia, anyway.â
âSo if Dani is the saboteur, then sheâll just pick Carly as her buddy,â Mary explained. âDoesnât that make sense?â
âYeahâŚâ Kim could tell from Dawnâs voice that her mind was going down another line of thought. She seemed to be contemplating what Mary was saying. âYeah, it doesâŚâ
âThatâs why I was thinking about the saboteurs being able to communicate,â Mary continued. âThink about it. Dani and Carly get in a fight and Carly runs off. Then Dani uses her saboteur mindlink stuff to talk to Rose, who then leaves Morgana in the bathroom to go kill her. Sure it violates Knoxâs Second Commandment of Mysteries, but those kind of went out the window anyway with those vents so who knows.â
âWouldnât Morgana be a better choice, then?â Dawn pointed out. âAfter all, Dani couldnât know that Rose would be free. She could have told Morgana, then Morgana could fake a bathroom emergency, vent to the Dining Hall, and kill Carly. That seems a lot neater.â
ââŚYeah, I guess soâŚâ Mary nodded. She really hadnât wanted to suspect Morgana, but what Dawn was saying made sense. âI still think Sylvia would have set it up so buddies would be saboteurs, though. But maybe notâŚâ
She thought about that for a second, and then shook her head. âIt could go either way. What really got me suspicious though, was how the teams were decided at the end of this round. You get what I mean, right? Rose seemed pretty cool with Dani suddenly changing her mind and letting Morgana onto her team. What if they wanted to be on separate teams from the start? Daniâs whole outburst about suspecting you and Dakota could have just been so she could isolate the two of you and set the teams out the way she wanted. Then Rose kills Dakota and she kills Morgana. Just like that!â
Kim thought Mary might have been ascribing a bit too much intelligence to Dani. The tomboy wasnât an idiot or anything, but Kim had never really pictured her as a tactical genius.
Dawn clearly agreed. âI donât know if Daniâs smart enough for that,â she said, putting a voice to Kimâs doubts. âBut it could definitely be the case that Morgana and Dani worked together, and arranged all those theatrics to be on the same team so they could hunt down Dakota and Rose. Itâs too hard to say at this point. Or Dani could be innocent, and Rose or Morgana just seized an opportunity when it presented itself and happened to get lucky running into the twins alone. In that case, the other saboteur could be Dakota, or me, or even you, Mary.â
âMe?!â Mary blanched. âNo, itâs not me! Look, the reason I wanted to group up with the two of you is because I think youâre not the saboteurs. Itâs probably some combination of those four. Look, hereâs how I expect the situation to go. Dani and Rose, or Dani and Morgana, are going to eliminate the other two. But when the next meeting is called, weâll know the culprits have to be them! Donât you see? And if they try to eliminate us, instead, the third member can get to the button while the cooldown on the syringe is going. So hereâs the plan. The moment any of us runs into Dani, whether sheâs with Rose or Morgana, assume theyâve eliminated the other two. Then we can run to the button and call an emergency meeting, and the vote will be three against two! Theyâll be eliminated and we win!â
Kim could see a big hole in that plan. And Dawn could too.
âOne issue,â the cat girl said. âYour plan hinges on us being able to outrun Dani.â
Mary blinked. âOh, fuck.â
As if to punctuate her sentiment, the lights snapped off.
