Naturally, your social standing took a hit from it. Besides, the few odd congratulations about finding a girlfriend, some of which were definitely sarcastic, the fact you were hanging out with Kaori didn’t have much impact in of itself. But, in the process you outed your own nerdy hobbies, which led to some teasing on our end.

What’s more, you’d made enemies with several of the toughest guys in the class. There were a few times when it even resulted in a few exchanges of fists. None of which you’d won exactly. But, by showing you were willing to take a punch for her, you persuaded most of Kaori’s tormenters that it just wasn’t worth it anymore.

All of which, you tried to grin and bear with some element of dignity. At the end of the day, you were rapidly falling in love with Kaori. And you were willing to do what it took to ensure that she was safe.

There was little doubt about the fact that she loved you back. Even before you were officially dating, everyone just assumed you were a couple. It was so natural and so obvious a process you weren’t even sure at what point Kaori even really became your girlfriend. You just remember that wonderful night you kissed together in the dark, surrounded by fireflies. Her parents were less than plussed about you as a potential match. But, you managed to charm them with promises of fidelity to their daughter.
