Who do you go with?
Kora and Anlin to the workshop
Something about Kora's grin makes it impossible to tell her no. Looking down, Zorack mumbles "Well if you need some help, I don't mind. Though I don't know how much help I'll be."
"Yayyyy!"they both cheered in unison before taking each other by the arm and walking towards the Town Square.
"Wow," Goddard said, "those two can't help but be adorable." He then patted Zorack on the back. "You're a good man to help those two out." He then turned to Bronsin.
"So how about it? Want to tie on a few?"
"As I said," Bronsin replied "I need to perform maintenance on my weapon."
Goddard feined sadness and said "It looks as though I shall drink by my lonesome once again," before smiling at both of them and walking towards the tavern. Bronsin then turned to Zorak. "Good luck my friend. I should rendezvous with you later."
"Sure thing," replies Zorak as Bronson walks towards the blacksmith. Zorak stood and kicked the ground, wondering it maybe he made a mistake passing up on those drinks, but he already said he would help and he was nothing if not a man of his word. He then headed off after the two Magic users.
He caught up to them standing outside the door of the workshop. Anlin had a large brass key in her hand and was working it into an ornate lock on the front door. With a Twist and a click she turned the door knob and it opened.
With a flick of her wrist, Kora lit several of the candle sconces in the shop. The girls gasped at the interior. Three large tables covered in beakers and cauldrons took up the middle while large shelves covered almost every available wall space. The shelves were full of a collection of sealed bottles and boxes containing strange liquids and emitting stranger smells.
Although the place seemed to exist in pure chaos, upon further inspection, Zorack noted that everything was labeled, though for the life of him he couldn't actually read the labels.
Kora and Anlin wasted no time getting to work. They began to grab bottles of potions, bags of herbs, and boxes of strange powders off the shelves. Despite thinking he would be useless, Zorack ended up having a lot to do. Several items were on shelves too high for the girls to reach. They also needed his help to haul the big wrought iron cauldron to the well outside, fill it halfway with water, and bring it back. This was difficult even for him so he can't imagine how the girls would have pulled it off. Probably with magic he thought to himself. And then ****.
He also offered to get a fire going in the large fireplace at the end of the workshop. They both readily agreed, they're big grins never leaving their faces. Zorack liked seeing them in their element like this. He lit the fire and put the cauldron on it to begin boiling. When he returned to the largest of the tables, he saw where the girls had laid out all their material, and that Anlin had laid out her big fancy book that she carried around everywhere and was reading one particular page.
"So what are the two of you trying to make anyway?" Zorack asked.
"An incredibly complicated and powerful potion," Anlin replied excitedly. "It can give whoever drinks it the power to pass through solid objects."
"Like a ghost?" Zorack asked.
"Exactly like a ghost," Kora replied. "Except you wouldn't need to die. Just drink this potion."
They then instructed him to bring the hot but not quite boiling cauldron over to the table, which he did. He watched as they begin pouring random potions, powders, and herbs into the bowling concoction. It didn't take long for the liquid inside to turn a strange green and then pink.
It was then that he noticed that the girls were no longer smiling. They kept looking at the liquid in the Cauldron, then at each other, then back at the book.
"I don't think this is right," Anlin said with concern in her voice. She began to look at the various bottles before her eyes went wide.
"Many of these bottles have labels on the other side. Whoever refilled them was reusing old bottles. I'm not sure how many old labels we read but we no doubt put a lot of incorrect ingredients into this mixture." A note of panic was creeping into her voice.
"So what's going to happen," Zorack asked. As if an answer to his question, the cauldron began to shake and bubble. Suddenly, a huge crack appeared on its side and liquid began to spray out. The girls backed up but Zorack knew what was coming next. He leaped forward to put himself between the girls and the volatile concoction.
Does he make it in time?
