Leave It

I decided that it was best to leave the camera as it was. I figured that, now that I knew where it was, I might be able to show my captors what they expect and use its blindspots to my advantage.

That decided, I checked to see if the door and wall slot were tightly sealed and, no surprise, they were. I checked under the futon, tub, dresser, and yoga mat, as well as the ceiling, and found no other entrances or exits from the room. Then, I carefully felt through my hair and found the {if dragonflies > 1}dragonflies that Katja had given me and carefully placed them{else}dragonfly that Katja had given me and carefully placed it{endif} on top of the wall-mounted TV, out of line of sight and camera view.

Then, I did what I had done virtually every night when I was living with The Asshole, back in New York—I climbed on the stationary bike and began pedaling.
