Chapter 166 by 280tcove 280tcove

What did Helen find out?

Not much, but she has something else up her sleeve.

"Now, before you get too excited, Sir, I want to make it clear that I don't actually know where Violet is yet," Helen explains.

I should have figured as much. Finding a lead isn't the same as solving a case. Still, it's hard to not be at least somewhat disappointed hearing that. I sit down on the edge of my bed as I settle in to hear where my assistant is going with this. She wouldn't make such a significant claim for nothing, so I choose to be patient for now.

"Okay... But you managed to dig up something, right?" I ask.

"Not something. Someone," Helen corrects me. "I've been doing a bit of asking around, and I think I may have found a person who saw Violet the day she disappeared. I'm not 100% sure, but the description they gave me is one-to-one. Assuming that it is Violet, they could very well have been the last person to see her before she vanished."

"That sounds promising. What else have they told you so far?"

"Nothing yet. I actually haven't even talked to them in person yet. I thought you might be interested in joining our meeting so you could hear what they have to say firsthand," Helen says.

Hmm... Sounds interesting. I mean, how could it not? This person supposedly knows where Violet is. Well, that might be me getting my hopes up, but they may be able to at least help us narrow down our search. I'll take anything I can get at this point. I wonder how Helen was able to find them. Maybe it has something to do with those supernatural skills she gained from her fourth attribute. And who is this mysterious stranger anyway?

"Are you sure we can trust this person, Helen? How do we know they're not lying? Or what if this is all some kind of elaborate trap?" I ask, probably sounding more paranoid than I meant to.

"I can't see any logical reason for someone to lie about this. As for a potential trap, it is technically possible, but if we want to find Violet, we're going to have to take some risks. But I have a good feeling about this. Based on the few interactions I've had with them, they seem to genuinely want to help, Helen tries to assure me.

That just makes me more curious to know who this person is. Why do they care so much about helping us? I guess the only way to know for sure would be to ask them directly. And I suppose Helen's intuition has never steered us wrong in the past...

"Alright. You make a good point. When are you two meeting?" I ask.

"Tomorrow morning," Helen answers plainly.

I have a sudden pause.

"You know I have a class then, don't you?"

"Please... What kind of assistant would I be if I didn't know your schedule? Tuesday and Thursday mornings you have math with Louisa Collins. I've already drafted up an email explaining your absence. All you have to do is say the word and I'll send it to her."

But if I skip Louisa's class, I won't be able to see what she looks like now. It will have been two days since she got her age regression attribute and I was looking forward to seeing how it turned out...

"Is there no way to reschedule?" I ask, just in case.

"Unfortunately, there's not, Sir. That's the only time our guest we'll be available tomorrow, and I think I speak for both of us when I say that I don't want to have to wait any longer to get more information pertaining to Violet's whereabouts," Helen replies.

As is usually the case, Helen's right. Violet is our top priority right now. Young Louisa can wait. Now that I think about it, I do have that dinner invitation from her and her wife. I suppose I can manage to wait just a little longer to see her new body then. Catching an early glimpse of it is not worth missing out on this information. If I have the opportunity to hear about what happened to Violet directly from the last person who saw her, I have to take it.

"Okay. Count me in," I tell Helen.

"Somehow I figured you would say that, Sir," Helen responds. Even though I can't see her, I can still tell she's smiling as she says that. "I'll take care of everything. All you need to do is show up."

Helen proceeds to give me an exact time for the meeting. She also mentions anything else she thinks I may want to know about her investigation. Nothing she tells me comes even close to being as promising as this potential source, but I still appreciate her commitment to keeping me up to date. We then wish each other a goodnight and wrap up the call.

Needless to say, I don't get much sleep that night. I mostly just lay in bed wondering who I'll see in Helen's office tomorrow and what information they'll give. I must end up falling asleep eventually though, as the next thing I know, it's already morning. It somehow got her incredibly quickly while also taking forever. Weird how the human mind interprets time in some situations...

Anyway, I speed through my morning routine to try and get to Helen's office early. From breakfast to the bus ride to the walk across campus, my heartrate only climbs higher and higher as I get closer to my destination. Finally, I'm there. I stand outside of Helen's door, quietly contemplating to myself. I can hear muffled voices in the other side of the door, indicating that our guest has already arrived and is currently chatting with Helen. Whoever it is, they sure are reliable when it comes to being on time.

Alright... time to find out who this mysterious person is and if they're the key to finding my girlfriend...

Who is it?
