1 month later

Baby Taylor was turning one month old, Brooke and Dean were still getting used to parenthood. Dean provided for the family while Brooke stayed home with Taylor, she still had her business and the extra money from that helped them as well. Things have calmed down a lot, Brooke and Dean’s sex life was somewhat nonexistent with having a newborn baby and all but that was okay.

Dean although he got a raise still had some boring days at the office. Coming back from his lunch break he spotted a letter on his desk, the front of the envelope read ‘Dean’.

Dean opened it, it read:

Dean,

Taylor is NOT your daughter and deep down I think you know that, please get a paternity test. I’m sorry.

The letter was not signed. Dean sat frozen for a second, he read over the letter multiple times, who was this from? How would they know Taylor isn’t his daughter? Dean checked out the penmanship but didn’t recognize it. He looked around the office to see if anyone was paying attention to him.

Dean wiped his face in frustration, he thinks deep down he always knew Taylor wasn’t his. He was still not fully convinced though, maybe he should take a paternity test, that way he would definitely know. Brooke did have sex with Richard, Richard’s dad, Mike and Richard’s grandfather, Al and himself all in the same span, Taylor could be any of them. But does Dean want to know?

Dean went back and forth in his head about whether he should test if Taylor is his daughter. Would things change? Would he tell Brooke the results? Would this eat him up inside if he didn’t know?

Dean found himself googling how to get a paternity test. All he had to do was to swab his and Taylor’s cheeks and send them to a lab, easy enough.

Dean drove home from work and was greeted by Brooke holding Taylor at the front door. Dean kissed Brooke on the cheek and then Taylor on her head, she was getting sleepy. Dean stared at her face, ‘does she look like me?’ He questioned himself.

“Just in time to put her down for a nap!” Brooke said while handing baby Taylor over to Dean who just walked in the door. He put his briefcase down to receive Taylor. Brooke immediately walked away to elsewhere in the house.

Dean took Taylor upstairs to her nursery, the first door near the top of the stairs. The room the Richard used to live in, there were a lot of memories from this room, good and bad. Dean looked at Taylor again, does she look like Richard? When Dean looked at her, he always thought something was off with the way he felt about her, he loved her but maybe not to the fullest he can. He put her down in her crib while she started to fall asleep.

Dean took a swab out of his pocket and looked at it, is he really going to go through with this? He must know. Dean swabs the inside of Taylor’s mouth with the swab and puts it in a plastic bag, she didn’t fuss and went to sleep for her nap. Dean puts the plastic bag in his pocket and goes to his room and into the bathroom. He swabs his own mouth and puts his in a plastic bag and returns downstairs to Brooke. He slid the bags into his briefcase before going into the kitchen.

“She’s asleep.” Dean says. “Good timing dinner is ready!” Brooke says with a smile.

Dean is nervous of what the results of the paternity test will be.

A few days past after Dean sent the swabs with his and Taylor’s DNA to a lab to see if he is actually her father. He is still nervous about the results.Dean checks his email, he should have gotten a response by now. He checks spam… there’s an email from the company! He quickly opens the email and skims through fast…
