Attempt number 2

Just to confirm you checked your own profile after getting the extra achievements instead of just the registration, hoping to see how much extra experience they had earned you.

20xp and 20 points, a larger amount than you expected but now that you had got the one time ‘stranger’ bonus, it was going to be a bit harder to get to your next total. It would mean another 7 people you needed to register and you wondered how you were going to find the time to do it if you planned on completing this in one afternoon.

Plus now that Emma was stuck keeping Grace busy, you had to figure out a way to do this on your own. You went to sit down on one of the benches as you scanned the area, noticing a quite attractive woman already sitting on the bench with her two kids to one side of her.

You didn’t even mean to try anything but with the way the kids were playing and jostling around, the woman got pushed slightly in your direction, making her turn her head to face you with an apologetic look.

“Sorry about those two” she said, not even noticing that you had only just sat down as her focus had been elsewhere.

“No, there's no worries. I can move if you want?” you replied, moving to get up from your spot.

As if you had a laid out plan already set up, you moved your leg when you shifted in your seat, your jeans still rolled up and which let you casually get skin contact without her even noticing.

“No, no it’s fine don’t worry” she answered, making you relax back onto the bench.

You kept your leg as still as possible before her attention went back to the other side of the bench. You felt the shock come through your leg but the woman didn’t even bat an eye, making you realise having two younger kids with her probably left her too tired to even notice.

You had to move your leg back to avoid the seconds going up more than they should but you couldn’t leave straight away to check out the KDK, already feeling stuck in your seat now that you had asked her if you could stay.

Sitting there gave you a chance to think of registration methods without having to rely on luck any more than you had already. The fluke of having her not paying attention was even enough to make you think there had been some KDK influence already but if the logic you had been following for it still held true, people needed to be registered before it could do anything.

Again you scanned for suitable targets as if an idea would jump out at you but it took a bit more thinking for you to finally decide to try something. You felt that pretending to be someone you weren’t was going to get you in trouble but no matter how you thought of it, you were going to annoy some people as the 5 seconds meant you had to be pushy.

You couldn’t pretend to be a staff member or try to help people as a handshake after that didn’t make any sense unless they were the ones to initiate it, deciding the opposite was probably going to get you better results.

Just in case Grace ended up looking in your direction to see you acting strangely, you waited for what felt like long enough before getting up and moving further away from the store she was in, walking further down between the two rows of shops until you were sure you couldn’t be seen and then moving into another store to scope it out before finding a target.

“Hi sorry to bother you, I could really use a hand” you asked one of the store employees, a woman who looked to be in her early twenties that smiled at your request.

“Sure thing, what can I help you with?” she asked, a bubbly reply giving you a bit of confidence that you could pull this off on your own.

You directed her to a different aisle and showed her two of the items you had spotted before when you had had a quick look around.

“I’m trying to get a gift for a friend and I’m torn between these two but I’m still a little unsure. Have you got anything in stock that’s similar or are these the only two?” you questioned, letting her take a look at what you had found.

“Hmm, let me go and check. I won’t be one moment” she replied, heading off to go and check whatever stock they had available.

As much as you wanted this to work, she came back and told you those were the only two available, leaving you to your shopping without the opportunity to thank her. Your thought process was that if you held a handshake for longer than what you deemed to be ‘socially acceptable’ after they found what you were looking for, the women you had then registered would likely want to get away from the situation as quickly as possible. At the cost of looking a little creepy, it meant you could leave quicker between stores but it also had the chance to fail like what had just happened.

You also had the added embarrassment if it did successfully work in that you wouldn’t be buying the item they had found for you, your limited funds making you reconsider buying one thing from every store. Hopefully if you ever did this again in the future you would be in a better financial position and you wouldn’t have to rush as much to get so many new subjects, but for now you had to deal with it as it came.

You weren’t dissuaded from trying again however and after your first failure, you managed to get another success, and then another before you ended up fumbling your last attempt for the moment.

You took a step back and returned to the same bench you had sat on previously to go over what you had learnt and to scan the KDK now that the previous woman was gone.

You didn’t have a 100% success rate but it was certainly the best method you had found so far. Your embarrassment faded after your first success and you felt yourself thinking of ideas even while you were searching for new targets. A better first look around the store first let you look for items or clothes that you could then ask for to increase the odds of them picking something out for you and picking the right person to ask was also something you felt you could learn to improve at.
