The search for Lang
The security checkpoint opened into a grand hall. Valerie took some time to take in her surroundings, admiring the architecture and ambience of the building. The floor was marble, and the place screamed old money. Several corridors led to passages and rooms on either side. In the front, a large staircase led to an upper floor, and it looked like all the guests were heading there.
"The event tonight is an auction. Lang is selling some of his most prized paintings, presumably to acquire funds for something big. That's not our primary objective, but it wouldn't hurt to know what he's planning.", said Iris.
More importantly for her, she noticed several passages leading to other locations. Old buildings like these could have unpredictable layouts, and perhaps even secret passages or hidden rooms. She made a note of them in her mind - they might come in handy later.
She continued moving with the crowd to the auction. Her plan was simple and by the book - she would charm her way to Lang, and hope to learn where the dossier was located. Once she knew this information, she could focus on finding an way to stay for the night - judging from her conversation with Luther, that wouldn't be too much of a problem.
Unexpectedly, she felt a hand caress the small of her back. Valerie let out a surprised gasp, but before she could react, the hand had moved to her waist, grabbing it gently and playfully. She turned her head to the side, and the perpetrator came into view.
